Donations needed for healthcare clinics

Students in the natural sciences are often involved in out-of-the-classroom learning experiences. During intersession 2006, eight outstanding nursing students will travel with Professor Janelle Gardner from the School of Nursing to the rural, indigenous state of Oaxaca, in southern Mexico. They will set up healthcare clinics in this isolated region where very little healthcare is available. Pictured from left to right are Jennifer Franchetti, Kennon Pyle, Gina Grayson, Amanda Stade, Tammi Vogel, Sarah Bolter, Karin Curtis, Professor Gardner. Caitlin Smith, not pictured, is the eighth student.

In preparation for this trip, the students are asking for donations of healthcare supplies. The following items are needed:

  • Adult multiple vitamins with iron
  • Children's chewable multiple vitamins with iron
  • Ibuprofen, tablets and liquid Any other anti-inflammatories
  • Urine dipsticks Pregnancy tests
  • Glucose test strips for an “Elite” glucometer (current dates please)

Drop off your donations at the Nursing Media Lab, Holt 357, or in the Nursing Office, Holt 369. Your donations will be greatly appreciated by these nursing students and the people of Oaxaca, Mexico.
