From academic excellence to student leadership to outstanding faculty, College of Natural Sciences students and faculty earned numerous awards

2013 Outstanding Student Leader Award

The Outstanding Student Leader Award is a university-wide award. Students in every college are nominated each year by faculty members in the college, based on leadership and service activities. This year the College of Natural Sciences’ Outstanding Student Leader Award, generously funded by Smucker Natural Foods, went to Ellie Oliver.

2013 Floyd L. English Scholarship Recipients

Each year the generosity of Dr. Floyd L. English, alumnus of CSU, Chico, and the Andrew Foundation makes it possible to award 12-20 scholarships to students majoring in programs in the College of Natural Sciences. This year 12 hard-working students shared in the $50,000.00 dollar award!  Read more.

2013 Outstanding Professor Award

The award of Outstanding Professor is the highest honor awarded to faculty at CSU, Chico. Keiko Goto Nutrition and Food Sciences, received her award in April 2013. At the reception she discussed the Gordian Knot Theory demonstrating how Alexander the Great was able to accomplish the task of untying the knot. It is said whoever untied the knot would become the ruler of the world.

2013 Outstanding Academic Advisor Award

peggyThe CSU, Chico Faculty Recognition and Support Committee selected School of Nursing Professor Margaret “Peggy” Rowberg to receive the 2012-13 Outstanding Academic Advisor Award. Professor Rowberg serves as the pre-nursing advisor for the School of Nursing, the Retention Coordinator for the School of Nursing, the faculty advisor for the Chico chapter of the California Nursing Students Association, the coordinator for the nursing students’ pinning ceremony and informally as the mentor/career advisor to all pre-nursing students. Peggy is also the current president of Kappa Omicron, the local chapter of the International Honor Society of Nursing. The 9th Annual College of Natural Sciences Poster Session

The poster session was held in April 2013 in the renovated Colusa Hall Conference Room. The poster session highlights the amazing research that faculty and students are conducting throughout the year in the classroom, lab, and field. This year featured 94 posters submitted by students and faculty in all departments of our college. People’s Choice Awards were presented by Dean Harmsen and went to:
