Equipment:

Pacific Bell Telephone Company does not sell telephone instruments. You are responsible for purchasing or renting the instruments from a store. Major retail stores (Target, K-mart, Penney's, etc.) sell telephone equipment. Of course you will look for the best deal.

Long Distance and Overseas Calls

Long distance calls cost more than local calls depending on both the distance and the time of day. Some companies have special rates for weekends during designated hours. Some long distance telephone companies operating in Chico are:

AT&T 1-800-222-0300
MCI 1-800-950-5555
US Sprint 1-800-877-7746

Since these companies are competitive, it is to your benefit to compare their rates before making a choice. The telephone directory has instructions for long distance and overseas calls.

After the call - Cost

Be reminded that many students have been surprised at the amount of money they end up owing the telephone companies for the long distance calls! Make it quick or better still, if your friends have e-mail, it is cheaper!

Telephone Card

Cards can be purchased at the Associated Students Bookstore and in many other stores that will enable you to make long distance calls from any phone. The card is convenient to use while you are waiting for your installation. It is also an effective budgeting device.
