Travis AFB Nurses returned to Chico State on October 13, 2011
Over 30 Chico State School of Nursing alumni, which took their courses at Travis Air Force Base in the 1960’s and 1970’s, returned to the Chico State campus for a luncheon on October 13, 2011. This event was designed to honor these individuals who had a very unique experience. Their clinical coursework provided them the opportunity to work directly with the soldiers and military personnel returning from Vietnam during the war years.
Many of these alumni enlisted in the armed forces after graduating with their nursing degrees. Two of the alumni shared their memories of living on base and taking classes in a military environment. Tears and laughter was shared as many alumni reconnected after not seeing one another since the late 1960’s or early 1970’s.
