Basic Program

CSU, Chico baccalaureate graduates are prepared to be the future leaders in nursing and are well regarded in the nursing community.

In recent years there has been high student demand for this major. Students interested in this program should apply during the initial filing period of the admissions cycle (November for any fall semester; August for any spring semester).

Only a limited number of students are admitted to this program for fall and spring semesters. Because of high student demand, nursing has been declared an impacted area of study, and special requirements for application to an impacted program apply. Special selection criteria are used to determine which students will be admitted. Review the information under "Admission Requirements" on the School of Nursing website for more information. The application will be available during the first week of September for Spring applicants and will be available in January for Fall applicants.

See “Requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree” in The University Catalog for complete details on general degree requirements. A minimum of 40 units, including those required for the major, must be upper division.

Transfer students can use for checking transferable courses from community colleges to CSU campuses. If you can’t find your course listed, e-mail a description of your course to the pre-nursing advisor, Phyllis Salopek,

An RN-BSN track is available for ADN and diploma nurses designed to accommodate distance and working nurses. All theory courses for this track are available online, requiring only two or three meetings on campus each semester. Practicum courses may be available in the RN’s local community The working RN can complete this program in 15 months. See the RN-BSN Program information on our website for details.

Applicants who hold LVN licenses may qualify for advanced placement admission to nursing. LVN applicants must meet the application deadlines noted above.

The baccalaureate program is accredited by the California Board of Registered Nursing and by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
