Students interested in applying for the LVN-BSN Program: The School of Nursing has suspended admissions to the LVN to BSN program, effective Fall, 2011.This difficult decision was necessitated by state budget cuts, the end of grant support, and the demand the program places on clinical sites and need for additional faculty. We know this program fills a real need for working LVNs to continue their education. For now, we recommend that you look at LVN to RN programs in the community colleges in your area, or at other CSU nursing programs. The prerequisites you took for Chico should meet the prerequisites for all the CSU programs. Private colleges also offer an LVN to BSN. Once you have your RN, Chico will continue to offer online options for RN to BSN and for the master's degree.
Here are your options at this stage:
1. For local LVNs, you may still apply for the BSN basic on-campus program, if you can attend classes on
campus. See admission criteria and deadlines for the BSN program.
2. If you already applied to the university for fall 2011, you may contact the Office of Admission to change to a non-nursing major or
3. You may contact the Office of Admission to request your application be cancelled and your application fee refunded.
If you choose to change your major or cancel your application, you must do so by December 1, 2011. After that time, all applications will be cancelled and fees refunded (if applicable). For admissions related issues please contact the Office of Admissions at (800) 542-4426 or (530) 898-6322. For nursing questions, please contact the School of Nursing at (530) 898-5891.
LVN-to-BSN Description - Frequently-Asked Questions
If the program becomes available again, applicants who hold LVN licenses may qualify for advanced placement admission to nursing. The LVN-to-BSN program is an online, part-time program.
Priority will be given to those who live or work in our rural service area, i.e., north of Sacramento to the northern and eastern borders. LVNs who reside outside the service area may be considered, but must be aware that some on-campus time is required. Clinical placements are required, and we cannot guarantee placements outside our region, as it is very difficult to get contracts with agencies outside our service area.
The baccalaureate program is accredited by the California Board of Registered Nursing and by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Most clinical placements will occur in the summertime The program is a three-year part-time program, designed for working nurses.
