Omega Chi Lambda... Hmong-American Interest Fraternity

Omega Chi Lambda was officially establish on April 3rd 1998. However the foregrounds and the original "Hmong" fraternity was founded on Nov. 7th 1997. Originally called Asian American Interest Fraternity it began with a rough start. With ignorant officers, Asian American Interest Fraternity was going nowhere under a 3 month period no progress was form under that administration. However under the leadership and guidance of former President Dang "Tommy" Her, and a consensus of all of the attending members, a impeachment session was held and a new administration was form. From that and a total of 20 founding fathers a new fraternity was derive from the original organization. There Omega Chi Lambda was chosen to symbolized the first and only "Hmong" American Interest Fraternity in the US. However Omega Chi Lambda is not a "Hmong" only fraternity, it is however a "Hmong" interest fraternity, we do also have one Vietnamese brother. Under our own constitution we do not discriminate anyone in any basis other then if he/she is a Chico State student. Omega Chi Lambda's colors are green and white representing the major Hmong dialects, known as "dlawb" and "ntsuab". Our official animal is the ox, representing the main Hmong farm animal in which the Hmong people use to survive. However Omega Chi Lambda does not isolate themselves with the other Hmong organization on campus called Hmong Student Association, during the HHEN tournament sponsored HSA, Omega Chi Lambda's was one of the two representing basketball team from Chico State. Omega Chi Lambda has also participated in the Multi-cultural Festival, in a handi-cap which Omega Chi Lambda was only selling "pat thai", with the determination of the fellows brothers, Omega Chi Lambda was able to pull a profit beyond conceivable. Omega Chi Lambda also hosted a yearly gratitude for our parents under a Father and Son picnic. Omega Chi Lambda also yearly do visits to schools around the Butte, Sutter, and Yuba counties to promote higher education in Hmong students. However under a short year the Omega Chi Lambda was not able to participate with any of the Greek Fraternity on campus as plan. Hopefully you too share the same desired and goals and will commit yourself into Omega Chi Lambda.
