Orientation & New Student Programs

What to Expect

Please refer to the following checklist before attending your Orientation session: Transfer Checklist

If you plan to bring a parent or guest, please note that the Parent/Guest Program runs concurrently but is a separate program.

Small Group Discussion

A peer advisor from the Summer Orientation program will share:

  • University requirements
  • Course selection strategies
  • Registration procedures
  • Valuable ‘Insider’ tips on how to successfully start your university career

For an optimal orientation experience, choose an orientation date when your major or possible major will be represented. Refer to the Session Dates link for college and department advising dates. A major advisor will:

  • Help you explore the program you have chosen
  • Explain specific major requirements
  • Assist you with course selection

Registration for Classes

By attending a Summer Orientation session you have the earliest possible access for new students to register for Fall 2018! This portion of the orientation is your chance to register for classes with help from major and peer advisors. You will also learn to navigate through your Chico State portal account.

Please note:   If you still have outstanding coursework and/or units required to meet your admission requirements, you will not be able to register for classes at Summer Orientation until your final Spring grade(s) are submitted to Admissions. Please bring copies of your unofficial transcripts with you to orientation to have for reference in selecting classes.

Housing Information and Tips

University Housing will be available to answer questions and provide helpful tips about living both on and off campus. For those of you planning to live in one of the residence halls, tours of an On-Campus Residence Hall and University Village will be available at the conclusion of your orientation session.

Information Fair

Take the opportunity to direct your questions to representatives from programs such as Financial Aid, University Housing, Student Health Center, Study Abroad, Honors, and more.

Campus Tour

During a walk through our beautiful campus, your guide will answer any questions you have about campus resources, community, and student life.

Sessions include morning coffee/orange juice and lunch in the BMU Auditorium as well as refreshments at program conclusion.

You will need to arrange your own lodging accommodations, as they are not included in your orientation fee. Please feel free to look at our Lodging page for some options including on-campus housing.
