Geologist/Environmental Scientist Compiles Data on High-Altitude Wind as Renewable Energy Source

Cristina Archer, faculty in the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences at California State University, Chico, has collaborated with Ken Caldeira of the Carnegie Institution’s Department of Global Ecology to compile the first-ever global survey of wind energy at high altitudes.

Dr. Paul Lopez's book The Braceros: The Untold Stories is scheduled to come out this spring from Kendall/Hunt Publishers. Other areas of expertise include Chicano/Latino Studies, labor markets, and public policy.

Dr. Lalich is an international leader in the exploration of cults and extremist ideologies. She is the author of Bounded Choice: True Believers and Charismatic Cults and Take Back Your Life: Recovering from Cults and Abusive Relationships.

Organic Chemistry

Dr. Zhang has received several awards for her work with the synthesis of natural compounds with potential medicinal uses. At CSU, Chico since 2006, she received a two-year Research Corporation grant that supports her work with undergraduate students.

Concrete Industry Management (CIM) Program

Dr. Komas is the director of CIM, one of five such programs in the nation. She took CIM students to Pointe Du Hoc, Normandy, France, in spring 2008 to assist in the evaluation of concrete bunkers at the World War II D-Day landing site.

History

Dr. Tinkler is the Outstanding Teacher of the Year, 2008-2009. He is the author of James Hamilton of South Carolina (Louisiana State University Press, 2004). His fields of interest are the American South, Civil War, and Reconstruction.

Kinesiology

Dr. Knudson has three primary areas of research: biomechanics of tennis, biomechanics of stretching, and qualitative analysis. He was interviewed and quoted on his research on the biomechanics of stretching in the November 2008 issue of the New York Times sports magazine, Play.

Dr. Dwyre's fields of expertise are campaign financing, parties and elections, and congressional elections. She is the co-author, with Victoria A. Farrar-Myers, of Limits and Loopholes: The Quest for Money, Free Speech, and Fair Elections.
