“South America’s uncompromising ambassadors of human expression.”- Globe Rhythm For over three decades, Inti-Illimani’s music has intoxicated audiences around the globe. Wedded in traditional Latin American roots and played on more than 30 wind, string, and percussion instruments, Inti-Illimani’s compositions are a treasure for the human spirit. They have toured with Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, Sting, and Tracy Chapman, among others. In 1988, these politically-oriented songwriters and musicians returned to Chile after a 14 year exile from their homeland. They have since gone on to become South America’s ambassadors for human rights. The Northern California Natural History Museum (NCNHM) at California State University, Chico will present its “Spring Museum Without Walls” presentation series. The theme of the series is “Our Changing Planet.” Professor Jeff Price of the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences will be speaking on “Climate Change: State of the Art.” Price is a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the international coalition of scientists who are reviewing the evidence for, and impacts of global climate change. Allan Stam is the Daniel Webster Professor of Government at Dartmouth College and the author of Democracies at War (Princeton University Press, 2002) and The Behavioral Origins of War (University of Michigan Press, 2003). Professor Weiner is the inaugural Warren Christopher Professor of the Practice of International Law and Diplomacy and an Associate Professor of Law at Stanford Law School. Before joining the Stanford Law School faculty in 2003, Weiner served from 1996 to 2001 as the U.S. government”s principal counselor at the U.S. Embassy in The Hague. Denis Hayes, one of the organizers of the original Earth Day in 1970, former director of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and one of Time Magazine”s “100 Heroes of the Planet,” will deliver the Rawlins” Lecture at 7:30pm in Laxson Auditorium. The title of Hayes” lecture is “Sunpower: How to Make Modern Industrial Civilization Sustainable.” The lecture is free and open to the public. Hayes” visit is sponsored by the Rawlins” Professorship of Environmental Literacy. Jack Rawlins endowed the professorship “so that each of us realize we are part of the environment and part of the problem Ö and through education, can work as a whole towards a solution.” Biologist James Pushnik currently holds the professorship. In honor of Rawlins” significant contribution to environmental literacy, he will be presented with an honorary doctorate the night of the event.

The Chico Art Center is proud to announce : Former Art Professor at CSU, Chico Ken Morrow Exhibition April 14-May 25 Reception: Saturday, April 14 from 7pm - 9pm. Chico Art Center 450 Orange St., Suite 6 (corner of Orange and 5th Streets-on the tracks in the Amtrak depot) 530-891-5945 & 895-8726 This show will include painting and sculpture from the Morrow family collection, including many pieces that have rarely been exhibited. The late Ken Morrow was a prominent artist in our community until his untimely death in the late 1980s. His work is in many art collections throughout northern California and beyond, including Chico State. A former professor at CSU, Chico, Morrow’s influence and personality touched many people in the community. Many of the works at this exhibition have rarely been seen by the public since being recovered from over 20 years of storage.

The University Art Gallery presents: “Locating Points of Connection: Within and Beyond the Bay Area Art World” A lecture by Berin Golonu, noted San Francisco visual arts curator Thursday, April 19, 5pm, Ayres 120 In conjunction with the University Art Gallery”s 52nd Annual Student Exhibition, Berin Golonu, Associate Curator at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, will discuss her recent curatorial projects. She is currently developing exhibitions that bring Bay Area artists together with people working in different parts of the world. Golonu describes these projects as focusing on “collectivity, generosity, free distribution and networking. It”s about locating points of connection that can later be nurtured into networks, whether they are local, national or international networks.” The lecture is free, open to the public and supported in part by Student Instructionally Related Activities Fees. About Ms. Golonu: Berin Golonu has been active as an art critic, editor and curator since moving to the Bay Area in 1995. She has curated numerous exhibitions at YBCA, including Soy y Que: New Chicano/Latino Representations (2003); the latest Bay Area Now survey (2004); and The Zine UnBound (2005). Prior to joining YBCA, Golonu served as editor-in-chief of Artweek magazine and has written for numerous arts publications, including Flash Art, Aperture, Art Papers and Art Nexus. She holds a B.A. in Art History from Vassar College and an M.A. in Visual Criticism from the California College of Arts.

The late Ken Morrow was a prominent artist in our community until his untimely death in the late 1980s. His work is in many art collections throughout northern California and beyond, including Chico State. A former professor at CSU, Chico, Morrow’s influence and personality touched many people in the community. Many of the works at this exhibition have rarely been seen by the public since being recovered from over 20 years of storage.

The Staff Awards Luncheon recognizes the staff of CSU, Chico. Staff members are honored for length of service to the university and for contributions to a safe workplace. Those who have retired in the last year will also be recognized. The culmination of the awards luncheon will be presentation of the Staff Employee of the Year. 11:30-2 pm.

Outstanding Professor is the highest honor awarded to faculty at CSU, Chico. The Faculty Recognition and Support Committee recommends the recipient from a pool of high-achieving faculty nominated by colleagues. This year’s honoree is English professor Graham Thurgood. A reception will follow in the PAC Courtyard.

Wayne Pease: Photography and More, Meet Me at the Fair, Eros & Death!

Wayne Pease, whose plays have been performed in San Francisco and New York and who was last year’s winner of the Fresh Ink Prize at the Blue Room Theatre in Chico, turned his attention to photography five years ago. He has spent five years in Europe and three in New York and has traveled in forty countries. Pease has lived in Chico for twenty-six years and spent forty-four seasons as a fire lookout for the U.S. Forest Service. Meet Me at the Fair is comprised of photographs from the Blue Room, including pictures over the years from the lobby, backstage, rehearsals, and performances.
