Record Number of Students Plan to Break Fund-raising Record for St. Jude Children’s Hospital Tonight

More than 2,100 students have signed up for the Up ‘til Dawn event at California State University, Chico this evening, Nov. 5. They will spend the evening writing letters to their friends and family requesting donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

This is the seventh Up ‘til Dawn event. Last year’s event placed CSU, Chico first among other universities in the nation with the $187,000 raised as a result of the students’ letter writing. The money is used by St. Jude to treat and research cancer and other catastrophic diseases of childhood.

The event begins at 4 p.m. in Acker Gym. Letter-writing supplies and food will be available. In addition to writing letters, participants will watch live performances, spend time with a patient from St. Jude, and will be eligible for a raffle with more than $20,000 in prizes. One of the raffle prizes getting a lot of attention is a car donated by AutoTrader.com. Another top prize is free spring tuition at CSU, Chico, donated by Triple J Screen Printing and Embroidery.

The complete news release is available online.

STATE TRAVEL - CAR RENTAL CONTRACT

Travel Services would like to remind State employees of the current Commercial Car Rental contract negotiated by the Department of General Services (DGS). Effective Jan. 1, 2006, only ONE car rental company is authorized for State travel - ENTERPRISE RENT-A-CAR. Only in the event Enterprise does not have an appropriate vehicle available, or does not represent a location, Vanguard (parent of Alamo and National) will be permitted as a back-up company.

Please visit the DGS web site to view important details regarding the current contract.
As a reminder, the ONLY authorized forms of payment for State car rentals are the American Express Government Card or the CRBTA (Car Rental Business Travel Account). Please see pages 29-30 of the online Travel Manual for complete details on how to use the CRBTA.

These approved forms of payment comply with the State contract and achieve the protections afforded in the Master Contract program (LDW/CDW/Liability included). The use of personal credit cards or cash is expressly prohibited and voids the terms of the contract. The term of the contract is from January 1, 2006, through December 31, 2008.
