Agriculture Student Will Be Youth Ambassador for Beef Industry
Michelle Wiggley, a native of Red Bluff and an agricultural student at California State University, Chico, received an honorable mention award at the National Beef Competition held in New Orleans in October. Wiggley will become a member of the National Beef Ambassador team and will travel throughout the United States in 2008 addressing beef industry issues.
Wiggley was one of 21 contestants from throughout the country who competed for the title of 2008 National Beef Ambassador at the annual competition. The contest is funded through the Beef Checkoff Program and gives youth an opportunity to learn about the importance of the beef industry while honing their public speaking skills.
To qualify for the national contest, Wiggley was recognized as the California Beef Ambassador during the state competition held in May. The state contest was organized by the California CattleWomen, Inc. and cosponsored by the California Beef Council. Wiggley’s speech focused on the nutritional attributes of beef and the variety of beef choices that consumers have to choose from.

Support CADEC's Giving Tree and Help Children in Need
Holiday trees are sprouting across campus as part of the Campus Alcohol and Drug Education Center’s (CADEC) annual Giving Tree program. Now in its 14th year, the Giving Tree provides an opportunity for CSU, Chico students, faculty and staff to spread some holiday spirit by donating gifts to needy children in the local community.
To participate, select a child’s name from one of the Giving Trees located in the BMU, Cross Cultural Center, Whitney Hall, University Village, Mechoopda Lounge or Lassen Hall. Purchase a new unwrapped gift for the selected child and return it to the BMU Information Center by Tues., Dec. 13. CADEC distributes the gifts to children from Touchstone Perinatal Program and Northern Valley Catholic Social Services Teen Parent Program—two local non-profit agencies.
CADEC is a program of the Student Activities Office and division of Student Affairs. For more information, contact CADEC at 898-6450.

Clarification to Bookstore Customer Appreciation Day Invitation
Many items in the Associated Students Bookstore Computer department will be 10% off on Friday, Dec. 7. However, computer hardware (including Apple products) are educationally priced and do not receive any additional discounts. The Bookstore’s invitation that went out to all faculty and staff should have read, “Computer Department - Up to 25% off.” We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

University Film Series: Wai-hung Wong hosts IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE, Dec. 4
UNIVERSITY FILM SERIES
Tuesdays at 7:30pm in the Little Theatre (Ayres 106)
$3 donation appreciated
898-4642
Dec. 4
In the Mood for Love (2000, Hong Kong) 94 min. Directed by Wong Kar-Wai. Hosted by Wai-hung Wong, Department of Philosophy and Humanities Center Board. Co-sponsored by the A.S. Committee on Arts and Lectures.
Chow (Tony Leung) and Li-zhen (Maggie Cheung) become more than friends when they realize their spouses are having an affair. Modish costumes, lavish sets, and rich moody lighting set the tone for this stylish drama that takes place in Hong Kong in the ’60s. From critic Duncan Shepherd: “…it is a major movie, a perfect match of subject and style. The camera, for openers, is always squeezing into tight, narrow, cramped spaces, taking people as it finds them, with a Degas-like randomness and informality: people caught in their surroundings, from disadvantageous angles, at odd moments, not people in a conveniently cleared-out space, in front of a docile backdrop, in positions of total domination, like your average movie stars. They are often only partially seen—from behind, in three-quarters profile, through forests of obstruction, or are seen only in passing, as if from the corner of the eye.”

Conversations on Diversity; There are None So Blind as Those Who Refuse to See, Dec. 5
Facilitated by Dr. Sherrow Pinder, Professor of Political Science
People often claim they just don’t notice a person’s race and sex. Is this really possible? Is it even desirable? In what ways does claiming such blindness protect existing biases and beliefs about race, sex, gender, and sexuality? This Conversation on Diversity will explore the consequences of claiming we don’t see identities as well as include discussion about why people might take such a stance. Bring your lunch and join us.
Join us Wed., Dec. 5, at noon in BMU 210; contact Tray Robinson at 4764 for additional information.
