CSU, Chico Professor Emeritus David Mallory Art Exhibition

David Mallory: Painter, Performer, Pedagogue.

Visitors to Avenue 9 Gallery’s David Mallory at Home and Abroad exhibition (Feb. 9 - March 16) will see how locations that range from Chico waterways to rugged hills of Spain and the high desert of Mexico have affected his monumental paintings. Since childhood, Mallory has practiced both painting and violin playing. Since 1969 Mallory taught in the CSU, Chico Music Department from which he retired in 1996. He spent the next 10 years painting and teaching art and music in San Miguel de Allende near Mexico City.

Mallory has now returned to Chico to paint and offer painting workshops. His is an art that combines direct inspiration from nature with his exploration of seven hundred years of Western painting traditions including realism, impressionism and abstraction. Also featured in the exhibition will be Bob O’Neil’s sculptures in alabaster, soapstone and marble.
