CSU, Chico Professor Named 2008 National Art Educator of the Year
Professor Cris Guenter, graduate coordinator in the Department of Education, California State University, Chico, was selected by the National Art Education Association to receive the 2008 National Art Educator of the Year Award. This annual award recognizes the exemplary contributions, service and achievements of one outstanding NAEA member.
Guenter will accept the award at the NAEA National Convention in New Orleans, March 26-30. She is scheduled to give two presentations at the convention—one on the use of wikis, blogs and podcasting for state associations and the other on using oil pastels.
NAEA President Bonnie Rushlow said, “This award is given to recognize excellence in professional accomplishment and service by a dedicated art educator. Dr. Guenter exemplifies the highly qualified individuals who are active in the field of art education today: leaders, teachers, students, scholars and advocates who give their best to the profession.”

Funds for Visiting Artists and Scholars
The Committee on Arts and Lectures solicits proposals to bring guest lecturers, performers, and artists to campus. We wish to empower students and faculty to create small, mobile learning environments, in the company of guests of their own choosing, and we encourage them to move across departmental boundaries in the process. The Committee seeks proposals in the $500 to $1500 range, and while these awards are small, they should be sufficient to entice that young scholar you saw at that conference last summer to visit our campus to share their ideas with a small group of us. The Committee is currently soliciting proposals for Spring 2008 and early Fall 2008.
For application guidelines, contact Sarah Pike, Chair, Committee on Arts and Lectures, x-6341. We will review proposals as they come in and funds will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Wed., Feb. 27
7:30pm
PAC 134
This event is free and open to the public.
David Chameides presents an argument in favor of practicing conservation in the broader ambition of living a more sustainable lifestyle.
What is the rate of fossil fuel consumption in the United States compared with the rest of the world? How much longer can we continue to use energy at the rate at which we are accustomed? If not much longer, what are our prospects for developing alternative, non-polluting sources? How do regular people in Chico, CA go about doing this?
This event is sponsored by The Institute for Sustainable Development and the Center for Applied and Professional Ethics.
