CELT - Sponsored Call for AIM Proposals
Faculty Publication, Demonstration Project Opportunity
The campus coordinators of EnACT (Ensuring Access through Collaboration and Technology), a federal grant, are seeking proposals for Accessible Instructional Multimedia (AIM) projects. After completing the project, the author(s) of an AIM will receive a $1500 stipend. The project may also be published on the MERLOT web site.
An AIM is a project that demonstrates effective class design, or use of technology that increases access for both disabled and non-disabled students. It is a resource that serves as a model for faculty to understand how current and emerging technologies can be used successfully in the postsecondary classroom.
EnACT promotes the use of Universal Design for Learning concepts in course development. An AIM project should exemplify the concept of front loading solutions to access issues (UDL), rather than reacting after the fact when barriers are discovered. An AIM project exemplifies the effective use of technology that improves learning outcomes for all students including those with disabilities. An accessible web site for course support where all text and links can be read by a screen reader to maximize student access would exemplify UDL.
This call for an AIM proposal ends April 15, 2008. If you feel your course has the features noted above or, if you are developing technology in your course that solves access issues while delivering your course content, you may be the AIM author we are looking for. Please contact Chris Prator x5959, or Hsuying Ward X5689 for more information and an application packet. If you are interested in viewing other successful AIM projects go to the web site.

CAVE 2nd Annual Hunger Banquet, March 6
March 6, 2008 @ Selvester’s Café
All proceeds benefit CAVE’s Alternative Spring Break Program (ASB) Washington D.C. trip. Tickets are $10 or at the door for $12. Purchase tickets at the CAVE office in BMU 309.
Bring your family, friends, co-workers, or students. It will be an eye opening experience.
A Hunger Banquet is a powerful experience in which guests are filled with a greater understanding of global hunger. The purpose of a Hunger Banquet is to raise awareness of world hunger through activities, stories, and a unique dining experience. Each participant has the opportunity to experience life through the eyes of marginalized people in the America, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Though few guests will leave with full stomachs, all will leave with a greater sense of the inequality of food distribution around the world. Hunger banquets are used by many organizations as a teaching tool to raise awareness of issues of hunger, poverty, justice and development needs.
Five students from the CAVE ASB program will travel to Washington D.C. to volunteer at homeless shelters and feed programs during spring break. The ASB program is organized by Community Action Volunteers in Education (CAVE), serving the community since 1966. CAVE’s goal is to provide students with meaningful service-learning opportunities while serving a broad base of community needs. This is CAVE’s third year leading ASB trips. The purpose of this trip is not only to help others, but also to create awareness within ourselves as volunteers, so we may bring our experiences and excitement back to our community and continue making a difference long after the trip has ended.
For more information, contact caveasbprogram@csuchico.edu, visit our web site, call or visit the CAVE office, BMU 309, (530) 898-5817.
