Campus Planning Committee Meeting
CSU, Chico’s Campus Planning Committee is hosting a community update on capital projects, Tues., March 25 from 3pm - 5pm in Kendall Hall, Room 207. The purpose of the meeting is to present an update on the University’s master plan; give the status of the five current projects: Student Services Center, Wildcat Activity Center, Student Housing Project (Sutter Hall), Northern California Natural History Museum, and Colusa Hall Remodel; and provide information on future projects. The public is welcome to attend and there will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and provide comments. The Campus Planning Committee advises the University president on the development of facilities on campus, and includes faculty, staff, administrators, students, and community members.

Ellen Deering Fund Call for Proposals for 2008/2009
In the late 1970’s, Ellen Deering established an endowment as a memorial to the C.E. Deering family. Her intent was to support research projects about the history of Northeastern California and the history of CSU, Chico, particularly the development and organization of the University Archives. Mrs. Deering required that copies of all projects funded from the Endowment be deposited in Meriam Library Special Collections.
Proposals for the 2008/09 competition should be sent to Carolyn Dusenbury/Deering Endowment Project Director/Meriam Library/CSU, Chico/Chico, CA 95929-0295.
Applications must be received by or postmarked on May 2, 2008.
Proposals are reviewed by the Ellen Deering Committee. Successful applicants will be notified by June 15, 2008.

IKON Representatives Available for Training, March 26
IKON representatives will be on campus Wed., March 26 to train departments on all the features of the IKON Convenience Copiers—copy, print, fax. There is one training slot left at 2pm. To schedule training for you or your department, please call University Printing Services at x5992. You may also go to University Printing Service’s web site for instructions to connect your computer to the copier for network printing.
The University is encouraged to use all features of the IKON Convenience Copiers—copy, print, fax—to increase the University’s sustainability and to reduce overall costs. Use of the IKON/Ricoh machines is supported by AS Recycling, The Institute for Sustainable Development, and University Printing Services. The many benefits associated with full utilization of the IKON Convenience Copiers are detailed online.

Defensive Driver Training
The CSU Vehicle Use Policy requires that State employees (including student employees) complete Defensive Driver Training every four years in order to drive a State, rental, or privately-owned vehicle on State business. In an effort to meet the needs of the Campus, the Vehicle Reservations Office is offering Defensive Driver Training each week.
Employees can confirm the date of their last training by inquiring at vehicles@csuchico.edu . Reponses will typically be by return e-mail on the next business day.
Please have your California Driver License number and expiration date, and CSU, Chico employee/student ID number available at the time of the class.
Location and time varies by session. To view the availability of sessions, location, and to register, log into the Web Based Training (WBT) system and click on the Course Catalog menu—the workshops are posted under the EH&S tab. If you need assistance logging into the WBT system, please contact EH&S.

Staff and Faculty Art Exhibition -- Call for Entries
Now is the time to submit your art notification form for the upcoming Staff and Faculty Art Exhibition. Up to three separate works may be submitted and work in all media is eligible. Information regarding the upcoming Staff and Faculty Art Exhibition has been distributed on campus. Questions may be directed to the Staff Council office, ext. 6156. Information regarding the art exhibit may also be viewed on our web site.
The annual Art Exhibit will be on display April 7 through May 23, 2008 in Kendall Hall, first floor. We welcome the opportunity to showcase the talents of our active, or retired, staff and faculty. The deadline for art notification forms is Friday, March 28.

Organic and Grass-Fed Ground Beef Sales: College of Agriculture
The College of Agriculture is now providing organic, grass-fed and a grain-fed variety of ground beef to the campus community. The beef was raised locally at the CSU, Chico Agricultural Teaching and Research Center by CSU, Chico agriculture students. Orders can be made online and the beef will be delivered to your campus address or you can pick it up at the farm every Friday. Visit our Web page and get your ground beef today.

Graduate Equity Fellowship for Under-Served Groups
The goal of the Graduate Equity Fellowship Program (GEFP) is to prepare, motivate, encourage and support those graduate students who aspire to obtain a doctorate and pursue an academic career in teaching and research. Awards for an academic year total $5,500. The two-part program provides a stipend of $750/semester and a salary of $2,000/semester for research related activities under the direction of a faculty mentor.
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
You must be economically disadvantaged; come from an educationally disadvantaged background/experienced restricted access to quality educational opportunities; be admitted to the University and a master’s degree program; classified as a California resident; and there must be a probable need for faculty in your academic discipline - i.e., a projected shortfall in the supply of qualified faculty in your field of study.
Deadline Extended to April 16, 2008 for the fall 2008 semester

Ongoing Sculpture Project:

During Arcega’s visit to CSU, Chico he will create a temporary sculpture in Ayres Hall. Groups of students will work closely with him to create his sculpture project “Built for Life: Secret Deaths.”
Arcega is an interdisciplinary artist working primarily in sculpture and installations. His art, though visual, revolves largely around language. He is interested in using comedic formats and tactics to express darker global issues. He received his BFA in Interdisciplinary studies at San Francisco Art Institute and is currently working towards his MFA at Stanford University.
Arcega’s work has been seen in group/solo shows in San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, San Diego, Detroit, New York, Hawaii, Seattle, Lisbon, Portugal and Sweden. He is represented by Heather Marx Gallery in San Francisco. Michael lives and works in San Francisco.
Funded by the Committee on Art and Lectures, the College of HFA, and the Department of Art /Art History.
