CSU, Chico Model United Nations Delegation Brings Home Top Award from National Conference

For the second time in two years, students participating in the Model United Nations (MUN) course at California State University, Chico won the top award at the national conference held in New York over spring break. The Chico delegation, representing Saudi Arabia, was named the Outstanding Delegation from a field of more than 290 schools.

In addition to the Outstanding Delegation award, six individual students received top awards: Chelsea Schick and John Carter received top awards in the General Assembly First Committee; Aki Matsushima and Sara Haskall in Economic and Social Council Plenary; and Anna Birch and David Vielhaber in the U.N. Relief Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees.

“Every year Chico State’s MUN team performs very well at the conference,” said student Emily Cohen, head delegate. “To take home the top award for two years running is remarkable. The students were tremendous. They outperformed other delegations in all areas, including research, public speaking, diplomacy skills, formal and informal debating, policy writing and overall policy representation of Saudi Arabia.”

Build a Better Community, Support Northstate Public Radio

Northstate Public Radio’s Spring Membership Campaign is underway!

You are invited to tune in to KCHO at 91.7FM (Chico) … KFPR at 88.9FM (Redding) … or listen online at KCHO.org. Your gift of support will fund presentation of NPR News, Car Talk, A Prairie Home Companion, This American Life as well as Classical, Jazz and our many other offerings.

Our theme is “Building Community.” The station is working in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Butte County. For each pledge of $75 or more, lumber will be donated toward the construction of Habitat’s first solar home in our region. Also, thanks to ongoing support from River Partners, listeners may opt not to receive a traditional thank-you gift and, instead, have native bird- and bee-friendly vegetation restored, in your name, throughout the Sacramento River Watershed.

Visit our website to learn more and to make your pledge or you can phone us, toll-free, at 1-800-234-5246. Each gift will help the station meets its operational goals, provide housing for local families, and restore native habitat in our region!

You may also contact Lollie DeYoung in our business office to learn about contributions through University payroll deductions.

University Film Series: HAXAN (1922, Sweden), hosted by Jason Nice, History, Apr. 8

UNIVERSITY FILM SERIES
Tuesdays at 7:30pm in the Little Theatre (Ayres 106)
$3 donation appreciated
898-4642

April 8
Häxan (1922, Sweden) 104 min. Directed, written by, and starring Benjamin Christensen. Introduced by Jason Nice, History and Humanities Center Board.

Grave robbing, torture, possessed nuns, and a satanic Sabbath: this legendary film uses a series of dramatic vignettes to explore the scientific hypothesis that the witches of the Middle Ages suffered the same hysteria as turn-of-the-century psychiatric patients. But the film itself is far from serious—instead it’s a witches’ brew of the scary, gross, and darkly humorous.
