Construction Management Faculty Share Building Information Modeling Expertise

Construction Management faculty from California State University, Chico recently returned from the 44th Annual Associated Schools of Construction’s (ASC) International Conference held April 2-5 at Auburn University, Auburn, Ala., where they presented work in building information modeling (BIM).

Professor Denny Gier presented his research paper, “What Impact Does Using Building Information Modeling Have on Teaching Estimating to Construction Management Students?” Professor Willem Kymmell, who has been involved with BIM for the last five years, provided curriculum development tips.

BIM is a new technology for managing and visualizing construction projects. BIM uses 3D models of a construction project that are linked to a database containing information on the project, such as costs, quantities of material, schedules, and specifications. Gier’s research showed that applying BIM in an estimating course had a small positive effect on construction management students’ ability to learn estimating skills.

$3 donation appreciated

April 29
Swimming Pool (2003, France/U.K.) 102 min. Directed by Francois Ozon. Introduced by Peter Hogue, emeritus, English.

One of Europe’s most daring and inventive writer-directors, Francois Ozon, reunites with his two favorite leading ladies, Charlotte Rampling (Under the Sand) and Ludivine Sagnier (8 Women). Sarah Morton (Rampling) is a famous British mystery author. Tired of London and seeking inspiration for her new novel, she accepts an offer from her publisher John Bosload (Charles Dance) to stay at his home in Luberon, in the South of France. It is the off-season, and Sarah finds that the beautiful country locale and unhurried pace is just the tonic for her—until late one night, when John’s indolent and insouciant French daughter Julie (Sagnier) unexpectedly arrives. Deliciously sophisticated and sexy.*
