The National Day of Silence brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. This year’s event will be held in memory of Lawrence King, a California 8th-grader who was shot and killed Feb. 12 by a classmate because of his sexual orientation and gender expression.

Prime Time Productions, the residence hall programming board of University Housing and Food Service, will be sponsoring Jenn Burleton, Executive Director of the TransActive Education & Advocacy Center in Portland, Oregon and the West Coast Sector Leader Board Member for PFLAG, to speak during a lunchtime engagement on Friday, April 25 at 12:15pm in BMU 209.

May 6
Jules and Jim (1962, France) 104 min. Directed by Francois Truffaut. Introduced by Laird Easton, History and Humanities Center Board.

Hailed as one of the finest films ever made, legendary director François Truffaut’s early masterpiece charts the relationship between two friends and the object of their mutual obsession over the course of twenty-five years. Jeanne Moreau stars as Catherine, the alluring and willful young woman whose enigmatic smile and passionate nature lure Jules (Oskar Werner) and Jim (Henri Serre) into one of cinema’s most captivating romantic triangles. An exuberant and poignant meditation on freedom, loyalty, and the fortitude of love, Jules and Jim was a worldwide smash upon its release in 1962 and remains as audacious and entrancing today.

LSSA Presents a Workshop on Environmental Education, April 22

Liberal Studies Student Association presents a workshop from Dr. Jon Hooper. This workshop will demonstrate fun and effective activities from teacher-tested environmental education guides such as Project WILD, Project Learning Tree, and Project WET. These guides focus on helping learners know how to think, and not what to think. Different ways that participants can obtain these guides (sometimes for free!) will also be discussed, as well as ways participants can receive further training in environmental education.

Dr. Jon Hooper has taught environmental education for more than 30 years. And he was the National Project WILD Facilitator of the Year in 2006. So, join us for a workshop that will give you some great ideas for enhancing your future classrooms and teaching.

All interested are welcome.

April 22, 2008 at 5pm in The Physical Science Building room 109. Questions? Call 530-898-5802.
