Trebuchets, model bridges, mousetrap cars, physiological replicas and gliders are some of the design competitions to be held at the Northern California MESA Day on Saturday, April 26, at California State University, Chico. More than 500 middle and high school students, from the Oregon border to the Bay Area, will showcase their projects and engage in a variety of fun, hands-on math, science and engineering competitive events. International Workshop: Contigliano, Italy July 4-16
This summer come study and experiment how to merge innovative interactive technology with history, art, and culture in the castle of a breathtaking medieval town in the heart of Italy!
Contigliano is an undiscovered medieval citadel in the center of Italy, in the province of Rieti surrounded by nature, one hour from Rome.
This workshop is a 2-week full-time course, designed for students, scholars, and artists from architecture, design, media arts, and engineering fields about media theory, visual arts, and technology in their relation to oral history and urban interaction. The workshop has classes in English and offers quality individual tutoring, and is designed for the students to produce, at the end of the training, a multimedia art work to be exhibited in the medieval town. Moreover, this experience abroad wants to create an ongoing dialogue between international artists, as a longer term project.
The workshop is organized by the non-profit association MEDIARS (Center for Interactive Media for Art and Entertainment) in collaboration with the town of Contigliano, together with international scholars from California State University Chico, UCLA, the University of Florence and the University of l’Aquila.
For more information about the workshop’s schedule and tuition check out the link below or contact Dr. Chiara Ferrari at 530-898-4647.
Hope to see you in Italy! ciao!

Location and time varies by session. To view the availability of sessions, location, and to register, log into the Web Based Training (WBT) system, click on the Course Catalog menu — the workshops are posted under the EH&S tab. Architectural Tour of Trinity, Kendall, and Laxson Today
To mark the 75th anniversary of the completion of Trinity Hall, a tour of the exteriors of Trinity, Kendall and Laxson — architect Chester Cole’s much-admired Romanesque buildings - will be held today at 2pm beginning in front of Trinity facing 1st Street.
Art Professor Yoshio Kusaba, who has written on the architecture of the Chester Cole buildings, will share his knowledge as we look at aspects of the buildings and better understand their enduring popularity. The tour will then head to the Student Services Center, where the architects of that new building will point out how some of its features echo other campus buildings. (Note: This is a tour of the buildings’ exteriors, and will not include entering the SSC.) Everyone is invited. Refreshments will be served in Trinity Hall following the tour at 3pm. LSSA Presents a Workshop on Environmental Education, April 22
Liberal Studies Student Association presents a workshop from Dr. Jon Hooper. This workshop will demonstrate fun and effective activities from teacher-tested environmental education guides such as Project WILD, Project Learning Tree, and Project WET. These guides focus on helping learners know how to think, and not what to think. Different ways that participants can obtain these guides (sometimes for free) will also be discussed, as well as ways participants can receive further training in environmental education.
Dr. Jon Hooper has taught environmental education for more than 30 years. And he was the National Project WILD Facilitator of the Year in 2006. So, join us for a workshop that will give you some great ideas for enhancing your future classrooms and teaching.
All interested are welcome.
