Defensive Driver Training
The CSU Vehicle Use Policy requires that State employees (including student employees) complete Defensive Driver Training every four years in order to drive a State, rental, or privately-owned vehicle on State business. In an effort to meet the needs of the Campus, the Vehicle Reservations Office is offering Defensive Driver Training each week.
Employees can confirm the date of their last training by inquiring at vehicles@csuchico.edu. Reponses will typically be by return e-mail on the next business day.
Please have your California Driver License number and expiration date, and CSU, Chico employee/student ID number available at the time of the class.
Location and time varies by session. To view the availability of sessions, location, and to register, log into the Web Based Training (WBT) system and click on the Course Catalog menu — the workshops are posted under the EH&S tab. If you need assistance logging into the WBT system, please contact EH&S at ehstrainer@csuchico.edu .

University Visits Restricted at the Water Pollution Control Plant Due to Construction
Please be advised that the City of Chico’s Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) is closed to visitors until late 2009 while the facility undergoes a $38 million expansion which began in October 2007. Considering the construction project is continually changing the conditions at the job site, the City of Chico has closed the site to visitors.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have to those who have been able to integrate the WPCP facilities into course work and who have enjoyed field trips to the various areas of the facility, including the bird watching areas. A visitor’s policy providing limited access during construction has been created; to inquire if a visit can be accommodated, please contact the project’s liaison, Tamara Miller, at MPM Engineering at (530) 892-1795.

Ellen Deering Endowment Fund Call for Proposals for 2008/2009
In the late 1970’s, Ellen Deering established an endowment as a memorial to the C.E. Deering family. Her intent was to support research projects about the history of Northeastern California and the history of CSU, Chico, particularly the development and organization of the University Archives. Mrs. Deering required that copies of all projects funded from the Endowment be deposited in Meriam Library Special Collections.
Proposals for the 2008/09 competition should be sent to Carolyn Dusenbury/Deering Endowment Project Director/Meriam Library/CSU, Chico/Chico, CA 95929-0295.
Applications must be received by or postmarked on May 2, 2008.
Proposals are reviewed by the Ellen Deering Committee. Successful applicants will be notified by June 15, 2008.
For Deering Endowment Fund information and guidelines, please contact Carolyn Dusenbury.

Relay Team Wildcat Wins First Place
The University Team Wildcat received top honors for raising the most money at last weekend’s American Cancer Society Relay For Life. The 25-member Team Wildcat raised more than $17,000 as one of nearly 90 teams at the 24-hour relay at PV High. The entire event raised more than $300,000. Funds go to to cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient services.
The Wildcats also donated towards more than 80 luminaria candles to recognize campus personnel who have battled cancer. The candles were placed in front of the booth to remember survivors and those we have lost.
The team thanks the campus community who supported the efforts and donated to our many fundraisers. Much credit goes to team captain Kathy Favor and fundraising chair Peggy Armocido for their tireless and inspirational efforts.
The team is already planning for next year’s relay. For information contact Kathy Favor.

Though CSU, Chico students, faculty and staff can always ride the bus for free with their Wildcat card (thanks to joint funding from the University and A.S.), this week the B-Line is free to everyone who wishes to ride. For this event, they have special guest speakers on selected routes highlighting the history, geography and other points of interest in the area. (Thank you to many of our faculty who have volunteered their time to speak on the bus routes.)
Passengers who ride during this week may also be entered into a drawing for prizes including a folding bike that can be taken onto the bus. More information is available online. Join the fun and spare the air by riding the bus.
