Summer Programs Reach Out to Students Who Face Barriers to Higher Education

As in past summers, California State University, Chico will host several groups of students looking to overcome obstacles to receiving a college education.

This Friday, June 13, 160 high school students from Sutter, Yuba, Glenn, Tehama, Colusa and Butte counties as well as four Hawaiian students will come to campus for a summer session sponsored by CSU, Chico’s Upward Bound program.

The students will attend classes and take part in planned activities Monday through Friday on campus, staying in the Mechoopda and Esken residence halls on campus before going home on the weekends. The students will also receive mentoring from faculty members on math and science projects this year. Before leaving June 24, the students will do the annual community service project, which again this year will be a clean-up of Bidwell Park.

The complete news release is available online.

Glenn Hall Roof Project

What is that horrible smell??

The new roof system for Glenn Hall requires applying a hot asphalt process to adhere the new single-ply roof system to the new insulation. Please excuse us; it’s a smelly job. The contractor is aware of the need to hurry this process along to minimize the inconvenience. Because of the wind today, the job has temporarily been shut down; we will resume the job tomorrow. If all goes as planned, this should stop the roof leaks in Glenn Hall for many years to come.

Please post this announcement in your area.

Library Services and Resources on the Move

LIBRARY RESERVE SERVICE has moved across the first floor lobby and joined Library Circulation. The combined operation is CIRCULATION & RESERVE. Materials for regular and electronic reserve should be dropped off at Circulation & Reserve or emailed to libraryreserve@csuchico.edu. Circulation & Reserve may be contacted at 898-6201, with a direct line to Nina Zamudio, supervisor of reserve services, at 898-4361.

LIBRARY NONPRINT MEDIA will soon move to the 2nd floor. Videocassettes, compact discs, audio discs, and DVDs, together with microforms, will become the MEDIA AND MICROFORMS AREA, located in the former periodical reading room. The current issues of periodicals will join the bound periodicals in the bound periodical stacks on the 2nd floor east. Unrestricted access will be provided to all nonprint items. Items may be taken to Circulation & Reserve for checkout and return, and the circulation period for nonprint media has been extended to the circulation period for books: 21 days for undergraduates and 35 days for graduates.

The fine rate for nonprint media has been decreased to the fine rate for books: $0.25 per day. Over the next several weeks, until nonprint media has been transferred to the 2nd floor, videocassettes remain accessible in the former Limited Loan (reserve & nonprint) area on the first floor. Requests for compact discs, audio discs, and DVDs should be made at the Circulation & Reserve counter. Problems, questions, suggestions—please contact Joe Crotts, 898-6675.
