Notification of Asbestos Abatement at Whitney Hall

Asbestos abatement removal work has been scheduled for Whitney Hall starting with set-up of the containment on Monday, June 30, 2008. The actual abatement work will start July 1, 2008 and is expected to continue through early August. The work targets the removal of asbestos containing insulation found around plumbing connections associated with the building’s hydronic riser assemblies and control valves. The hours of work will be from 6:30am to 3:30pm Monday through Friday. Work will be accomplished in each of the student rooms, and at select ceiling areas (3) where the control valves are found. The Whitney Dining Hall will continue its operations throughout this period, and will not be affected by the abatement work.

A licensed Asbestos Abatement contractor (Allied Environmental) will be removing asbestos containing materials from these areas. While the abatement work is being performed, the building fans for only the affected areas will be turned off.

Following the abatement and prior to restarting the fan systems, the University’s Asbestos Abatement Consultant, Entek, Inc. will provide clearances.

For questions or concerns please contact Facilities Management and Services at 898-6222.
