Registration Open for After School Professional Development Institute Conference

In collaboration with Butte County Office of Education and Region 2 Learning Support After School Programs, California State University, Chico Continuing Education will host After School: Start Your Engines - After School Professional Development Institute Conference, July 27-29, on the CSU, Chico campus.

The conference will provide K-8 paraprofessionals, coordinators, teachers, and staff the opportunity to explore ways to develop and improve their after school programs. Participants will discover how to implement varied curriculum, facilitate experiential learning, and provide a more positive environment for children.

The After School conference will feature keynote speaker Dr. Gale Gorke, executive director of Kids Kan, Inc., who is recognized as a pioneer in the creation and implementation of successful child and staff development programs based on active learning techniques.

16mm Films Available

Academic Technologies has approximately 3,000 16mm films in storage that will be recycled. Anyone with an interest in these films for their personal collection is welcome to stop by Studio B in the basement of Meriam Library next week, June 8 - 11, from 9am - 4pm. A complete catalog of the films will be available in the studio and you may make your selection and take the films with you. All 16mm projectors have been retired, so there is no provision for previewing the films. For more information, contact Jan Costenbader at x4192.

Annual Butterfly Survey Postponed to Monday, June 8

Due to the cool weather we are having, the third annual butterfly census on the Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve (BCCER) and Butte Creek Ecological Preserve (BCEP) will be postponed to Monday, June 8. This will be the third annual survey that is part of a national effort to track butterfly populations. Please join us Monday if you are interested in learning more about local butterflies and their habitat. Please call Jeff Mott for more information and meeting times.

General Safety Awareness / Fire Prevention Plan / Ergonomics Awareness, June 16

These three important back-to-back workshops are strongly encouraged for all employees, two of which are required (*) for employees during employment at CSU, Chico:

- General Safety Awareness*: Goes through the seven main parts of an effective Injury and Illness Prevention Program here on the CSU, Chico campus. This will include the University’s responsibilities, roles, types of communication and training.
- Fire Prevention Plan*: An excellent refresher on prevention, awareness, and actions in the event of a workplace emergency or hazard.
- Ergonomic Awareness: Includes information on repetitive motion injuries, symptoms, and prevention.

All three workshops are necessary for the Supervisory Development Training certificate program, but all employees are welcome to attend. Seating is limited, so please register early.
