Turner Summer Art Academy Underway Now
The Janet Turner Print Museum at California State University, Chico is hosting its seventh annual Summer Art Academy now through August 6. The academy provides art instruction in several mediums for students from seven years old to adults who want to have an art-immersion experience.
The academy is organized and run each year by members of the Janet Turner Board of Directors, the CSU, Chico Department of Art and Art History faculty and its students, and other members of the community. Barbara Morris, from the JTP Museum, directed the academy for its first six years. Teresa Cotner, a professor of art education, is co-directing it this year.
Academy participants are divided into two groups, juniors (ages 7-11) and seniors (age 12¬¬ to adult). CSU, Chico students teach most of the lessons under the guidance of Barbara Morris, president of the Janet Turner board of directors and art faculty members Eileen MacDonald, printmaking; Michael Murphy, ceramics; and Teresa Cotner, art education. Guest teachers from the Chico community also teach some lessons.
