Permit Dispensers

Parking Services would like to announce the installation of four additional permit dispensers. The new locations are second and third floor of the parking structure, one in the Stadium/Health Center Lot, and one at the Gateway Museum. The new dispensers are set up with the same payment options: cash, coin or credit card. The cost is $1 an hour up to four hours or $5 for the day. These permits are valid in any “G” parking stall on campus. Permits are required in all campus lots 7:30am - 10pm, Monday-Friday.

Sponsored and Event Parking

Parking Services would like to remind you about sponsored and event parking options.

Any campus department is welcome to sponsor parking for a guest by purchasing a daily or weekly permit at a reduced rate. This permit is valid for any “G” parking stall on campus. These permits are not valid for employee or student use. For more information please contact Cashiering located in SSC room 230 or call extension 4195.

If you are hosting a large event of 100 or more and would like to arrange designated parking for your guests please contact University Police Parking Services. A specific parking area and reduced parking fee can be arranged. Please call extension 4809 for more information.

Surplus Property Available to All Departments

The Office of Property Management would like to invite your department to view our surplus property. Items include the following:

â–ª Large and small desks
â–ª Filing cabinets
â–ª Bookshelves and bookcases
â–ª Chairs
â–ª Tables
â–ª Miscellaneous office supplies

These items are available on a first come, first serve basis. Viewing hours are 9am to 11am and 1pm to 3pm on Thurs., Sept. 3, 2009, located at the Warehouse, 810 Oak Street.

At the time of viewing, you may want to have a departmental vehicle available to take the smaller items selected. Items will be held for 5 working days. If the item(s) are not picked up after that time the item(s) will be returned to the surplus inventory.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give the Office of Property Management a call at extension 5176.

ARI 09/10 Off Cycle Campus Call for Proposals

Agricultural Research Initiative (ARI) 09/10 Off-Cycle Campus Call for Proposals

CSU Agricultural Research Initiative (ARI) has available funding between the normal campus fiscal year funding. Limited funds are available for the 2009/10 fiscal year to all qualified campus faculty and research staff on a competitive basis. The ARI provides public funds that require at least one-to-one match with industry/agency resources to fund high impact applied agricultural research, development, and technology transfer.

All proposals must address improving the economic efficiency, productivity, profitability and sustainability of California agriculture and its allied industries. Campus proposals are for projects that address local, regional or statewide issues. Campus proposals require submission of “A Notice of Intent to Submit”, which is due to Karen Hansen, RESP ARI Analyst by Sept. 23, 2009. Materials for the ARI 2009/10 Off Cycle Campus Call for Proposals are available on the RESP Web site.

Full proposals are due to RESP by: Oct. 23, 2009.

Note: Please use the Campus Proposal ARI 09/10 application materials for your off-cycle proposal.

Peaches at the Farm - Ripe and Ready to Pick

There are still hundreds of sweet, ripe peaches on the trees at the University Farm. U-pick hours are 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. We’re operating on the honor system so follow the signs to the orchard, fill your buckets or boxes, and then bring them to the Farm Office to be weighed. $1 /pound. Free Tutoring

Students may sign up for free tutoring appointments in the Student Learning Center beginning on Wed., Sept. 2, at 9am. Appointments must be made in person.

Hours: Monday through Thursday, 9am - 4:30pm and Friday 9am - 2:30pm.

Tutoring is offered for writing, math, sciences, foreign languages, and a variety of other academic subjects. All tutors are students recommended by faculty based on their knowledge and their commitment to helping others succeed.

Deepak Chopra is coming to CSU, Chico, Sept. 12

Chico Performances and Enloe Medical Center are teaming up to bring Deepak Chopra to Laxson Auditorium on Sept. 12 at 7:30pm. The title of the lecture will be Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul.

Acknowledged as one of the world’s leaders in the field of mind body medicine, Deepak Chopra is changing the way we view physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social wellness. In this multimedia presentation, Dr. Chopra will discuss his belief that health is a state of balance of body, mind, and spirit, and that it takes a total shift in perception to realize that you are not in the world, rather the world is in you.

This performance is supported in part by Enloe Medical Center, reflecting the Planetree philosophy that the arts and community are important aspects of a healing environment for everyone.

In association with Enloe Medical Center’s Planetree philosophy, Deepak Chopra will also hold a meet and greet reception one hour prior to his lecture for a limited number of guests.

Ticket costs are $55 for Premium, $50 for Adult/Senior and $45 for Student/Child.

Furlough Session with President Zingg Tomorrow

President Zingg will be hosting several informal sessions this semester for campus community members to discuss budget and furlough issues. The first is tomorrow, Thurs., Aug. 27, at 8am in Ayres 120. All the sessions will be scheduled for an hour and are open to anyone. The president along with other administrative staff will be in attendance to answer questions and listen to questions and concerns. As the dates and times of future sessions are set, the information will be passed along via e-mail, and posted on the furlough Web site.

Tom Patton joined the faculty of the Department of Art and Art History at CSU, Chico in 2002. In more than 250 exhibitions, Patton’s work has been widely seen and is included in many public collections including Australian National Gallery; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; St. Louis Art Museum; Seattle Art Museum; Portland Art Museum; Milwaukee Art Museum; Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego; the Crocker Museum of Art, Sacramento; and Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, whose curator writes: Patton’s photographs are deceptively and wonderfully complex … [they] deftly utilize the presumed simplicity of the “snapshot” to engage some of the most profound themes of modern art and culture: nature, individual consciousness, and the complexities of representation.

Nancy Scott Patton, a printmaker, papermaker, and book artist, has taught at CSU, Chico and Butte College. She has exhibited her work throughout the country and had a print series purchased by the American Council on Education in Washington, D.C.

That’s why growing up in Montreal alongside his heterosexual brothers and his strict, emotionally distant father (Michel Cote ) proves especially challenging for the blossoming outsider, who finds solace in the music of Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones,and David Bowie.

Chicago Blues Reunion and Charlie Musselwhite Come to Chico

Chico Performances brings the Chicago Blues Reunion featuring Charlie Musselwhite to Laxson Auditorium on Sept. 11 at 7:30pm.

The Chicago Blues Reunion is an all-star collaboration of Chicago music legends. The band members — Barry Goldberg, Nick Gravenites, Harvey Mandel, Gary Mallabar, Rick Reed — all honed their chops in the 60s on Chicago’s south side, and have each earned reputations as leading blues musicians of our time. Joined by singer and blues harp maestro Charlie Musselwhite, their performance will turn Laxson into a true “House of Blues.”

This live performance gives the audience the chance to experience the smooth sound and legendary melody of classic American blues as it has been performed for years.

Ticket costs are $25 Premium, $20 Adult, $18 Senior, $15 Student/Child and are available online.

CSU, Chico Employees in Need of Donated Leave Credits

Denise Gavello (Staff, Accounting Operations) Employee is using Family Care catastrophic leave:only vacation credits may be donated.

Any CSU, Chico employee who accrues sick leave or vacation leave credits may donate leave credits to other eligible employees on the CSU, Chico campus, regardless of bargaining unit affiliation. Associated Student employees and CSU, Chico University Research Foundation employees are not eligible to donate leave credits to CSU, Chico employees.

If you wish to donate leave credits, you will need to sign the catastrophic leave donation list - which is maintained at the Payroll/Benefits Customer Service Counter (Kendall 222).

Because your signature is required, your donations cannot be accepted over the phone or via e-mail.

Per Catastrophic Leave Program guidelines, only the Disability Programs Office or a union representative may solicit for Catastrophic Leave donations; solicitation by any other party is prohibited.

TILT Symposium: Self-Service Application Tool for Vista Users

How you can better manage your Blackboard Vista account/classes.

In this TILT session, Scott Kodai and Mark Kauffman will explain how the self-service product was developed and show participants how to use it for Vista course management. This CSU, Chico developed tool allows users to: add or remove guest section designers, add or remove community members, add or remove prep areas, reset sections, and hide or show sections.
