Counseling and Wellness Center Support Groups offered Fall 2009
The Counseling and Wellness Center, is located in the student services building (SSC 430). The Counseling and Wellness Center offers personal confidential counseling (group, individual, couples) to regularly enrolled students. As group counseling has been found to be more effective than individual work for certain kinds of issues, the following groups will be offered this fall:

Limited Recycling Pickups Labor Day Week
Recycling service will be limited due to the campus being closed on Mon., Sept. 7 and Tues., Sept. 8. If you are in one of the following buildings and cannot wait until the following week to be picked up, please call the AS Recycling office (898-5033) to schedule a special pick up. Thank you for your patience and commitment to waste diversion in these difficult times.
The following buildings will have limited recycling services during the week of Sept. 7 through the 11.
Butte, Plumas, Tehama, Student Services Center, MLIB, Trinity, Siskiyou, 25 & 35 Main, SAPP, Sierra, UHFS Office.
All other buildings will be serviced on their regular day and time.

AS Sustainability Fund - Call for Proposals
The AS Sustainability Fund is seeking innovative proposals from students.
The fund currently has about $100,000 to allocate to student projects that advance sustainability on campus or in the community.
In order to be eligible to apply, students must be enrolled this semester and next semester, have a Project Advisor (faculty, staff, or community member) and attend one of the three mandatory workshops:
Fri., Sept 25 Workshop #1 noon - 1pm BMU 211
Thurs., Oct. 1 Workshop #2 12:30pm - 1:30pm BMU 211
Wed., Oct. 7 Workshop #3 4pm - 5pm BMU 211
The proposal submission deadline is Thurs., Oct. 29 by noon.

Chico Preview Day - Suspended
The Chico Preview Day event, originally scheduled for October 24, has been suspended for this year. Given the budget situation, campus furlough schedule, and the University’s need to down-size enrollment, it was decided to suspend the event this year and put more focus on our spring yield event/reception to be held on April 10, 2010. Join Staff Council and BloodSource today, Sept. 9 for the first campus blood drive of the academic year. All participants will receive a free t-shirt. In order to donate participants must: bring a photo ID or donor card, drink plenty of fluids, eat prior to donating, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be generally healthy. Please allow one hour for the donation process.

CSU, Chico Warehouse Live Auction, Sept. 15
The Office of Property Management at CSU, Chico, would like to invite you to our surplus property auction. Items include desks, filing cabinets, bookshelves, chairs, tables, refrigerators, and much, much more.
These items are cash only and payable at the time of purchase. Viewing hours are 11am to 12 noon. The auction will begin promptly at 12:10pm on Tues., Sept. 15, 2009, located at the Warehouse, 810 Oak Street, Suite 100, Chico. Be early as the auction moves fast.
At the time of purchase, you must provide a vehicle to take all items selected by 3pm. Items will not be held for later removal.

"Going Green" Photography Exhibition Reception, Today
The Museum of Anthropology at CSU, Chico is kicking off their Fall 2009 Academic Season inviting the public to join them in celebrating photography competition winners at an opening night reception and award ceremony at 5pm, Sept. 9 in Kendall Hall. This year’s theme for the annual American Visions Photography Competition was “Going Green,” and after having received over 100 submissions from around the nation, the judges have made their selection of the top 25 to be featured in Kendall Hall’s rotunda through Sept. 25.
Chico local Douglas Churchill ranked first place among entries from photographers across the nation and will be awarded Best in Show and be granted the $500 Valene Smith Award for Excellence in Visual Anthropology—an honor never before given to a local artist.
Submissions were judged and chosen based on their adherence to the “green” theme and span diverse yet relevant subjects from human ecological awareness, sustainable technological innovations, and healthy lifestyle choices to even the natural beauty of our planet. Kendall Hall will be open Monday - Friday from 8am to 5pm throughout the exhibition.

International Forum, Sept. 15
Professor Daniel Lee of the Department of Sociology, California State University, Channel Islands, will present “Maria of the Oak: Society and the Problem of Divine Intervention in Germany” at the International Forum on Sept. 15, 2009, in Tehama 108. The talk reflects Professor Lee’s recent publication in the academic journal “Sociology of Religion” about the notes left by pilgrims at a forest shrine in a rural area of Germany. Professor Lee holds a BA degrees in Sociology and Humanities from CSU, Chico.

In 1973, in Santiago of Chile of the first socialist president democratically elected in a Latin-American country, President Salvador Allende, the principal of the Saint Patrick School, Father McEnroe makes a trial of integration between students of the upper and lower classes. The bourgeois boy Gonzalo Infante and the boy from the slum Pedro Machuca become great friends, while the conflicts on the streets leads Chile to the bloody and repressive military coup of General Augusto Pinochet on 11 September 1973, changing definitely their lives, their relationship and their country.

The Alumni Association's Annual Family Weekend BBQ, Oct. 10
The Alumni Association invites your campus organization to join us for the annual Family Weekend BBQ on Kendall Lawn, Sat., Oct. 10. This is a great opportunity to meet and greet new students and parents by tabling at our event called the “Fare Square” and handing out fan fare, including coupons and give-aways, to the 800 to 1,000 attendees. You will need to provide your own table and sunshade, which we recommend you have. There is a $25 fee to participate at the event, which includes 2 tickets to the BBQ catered by Kinder’s. We will be serving chicken sandwiches, veggie burgers, fresh fruit, pasta salad, BBQ beans, soda, water, and cookies.

Set in late 19th century Canton, this martial arts film depicts the stance taken by the legendary martial arts hero Wong Fei-Hung (1847-1924) against foreign forces’ (English, French and American) plundering of China. When Aunt Yee arrives back from America totally westernized, Wong Fei-Hung assumes the role of her protector. This proves to be difficult when his martial arts school and local militia become involved in fierce battles with foreign and local government.

Deepak Chopra is coming to CSU, Chico, Sept. 12
Chico Performances and Enloe Medical Center are teaming up to bring Deepak Chopra to Laxson Auditorium on Sept. 12 at 7:30pm. The title of the lecture will be Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul.
Acknowledged as one of the world’s leaders in the field of mind body medicine, Deepak Chopra is changing the way we view physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social wellness. In this multimedia presentation, Dr. Chopra will discuss his belief that health is a state of balance of body, mind, and spirit, and that it takes a total shift in perception to realize that you are not in the world, rather the world is in you.
This performance is supported in part by Enloe Medical Center, reflecting the Planetree philosophy that the arts and community are important aspects of a healing environment for everyone.
In association with Enloe Medical Center’s Planetree philosophy, Deepak Chopra will also hold a meet and greet reception one hour prior to his lecture for a limited number of guests.
Ticket costs are $55 for Premium, $50 for Adult/Senior and $45 for Student/Child.

Chicago Blues Reunion and Charlie Musselwhite Come to Chico
Chico Performances brings the Chicago Blues Reunion featuring Charlie Musselwhite to Laxson Auditorium on Sept. 11 at 7:30pm.
The Chicago Blues Reunion is an all-star collaboration of Chicago music legends. The band members — Barry Goldberg, Nick Gravenites, Harvey Mandel, Gary Mallabar, Rick Reed — all honed their chops in the 60s on Chicago’s south side, and have each earned reputations as leading blues musicians of our time. Joined by singer and blues harp maestro Charlie Musselwhite, their performance will turn Laxson into a true “House of Blues.”
This live performance gives the audience the chance to experience the smooth sound and legendary melody of classic American blues as it has been performed for years.
Ticket costs are $25 Premium, $20 Adult, $18 Senior, $15 Student/Child and are available online.

You’ll learn how to manage your wages so you can pay your bills, fund your investments, set aside money for savings and still have some spending money left over. In this TILT session, Scott Kodai and Mark Kauffman will explain how the product was developed and show participants how to use it for Vista course management. This CSU, Chico developed tool allows users to: add or remove guest section designers, add or remove community members, add or remove prep areas, reset sections, and hide or show sections.
