Farm to School: Organic Vegetable Garden Supports Community
The Organic Vegetable Project at California State University, Chico has increased production to accommodate students at CSU, Chico as well as local schools in partnership with the program. The Organic Vegetable Project (OVP), initiated in 2007, has expanded their garden area from a quarter-acre pilot project to a full acre in the last two years.
With their recent expansion in production the OVP hopes to attract more funding, volunteers and interest in the program to grow more organic produce on the land made available to them.
The OVP is committed to growing healthy and nutritious organic produce using small-scale agricultural techniques. “Our primary market is Chico State students, and we hope to grow into serving local schools,” said Katie Fugnetti, field manager for the Organic Vegetable Project. “With the farm-to-schools approach we can teach the benefits of small-scale organic farming to students and provide nutritious and wholesome foods to them.”

"Trailer Park" Musical Staged Sept. 30 - Oct. 4
What does adultery, strippers, murderous ex-boyfriends, Costco, the Ice Capades, spray cheese, and road kill have in common? They are all part of the outrageously raunchy and hilarious Great American Trailer Park Musical, staged Sept. 30 through Oct. 4 at CSU, Chico’s Wismer Theatre.
Complete with a trashy Greek chorus of trailer park divas, “The Great American Trailer Park Musical” shines a spotlight on Armadillo Acres, Florida’s most exclusive mobile home community, where having your baby kidnapped isn’t half as tragic as getting a bad perm. Everything is hunky-dory down south until a hot young stripper on the run comes between the trailer park’s agoraphobic-housewife and tollbooth-collector-husband.
Filled with white trash truisms and low-rent good fun, “The Great American Trailer Park Musical” is one red-neck comedy you won’t want to miss. For tickets call the University Box Office, 898-6333. Seating is limited.
Presented by CSU, Chico’s School of the Arts. Rated “M” for mature language and content. More information is available online.
