Ethics Speaker Series Presents President and CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation
The Ethics Speaker Series, a program of the College of Business, California State University, Chico, is bringing David A. Williams, president and chief executive officer of the Make-A-Wish Foundation to Chico Tuesday, Sept. 22 at
4 pm in the Bell Memorial Union Auditorium.
Williams’ lecture, “Leading with Passion: Behind the Wishmakers,” is free and open to the public.
As president and chief executive officer, Williams leads the national staff and 65 chapters of the Make-A-Wish Foundation in its mission: granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. The purpose of the foundation is to “enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.” Since 1980, the world’s largest wish-granting organization has granted the wishes of more than 174,000 children in the United States, Guam and Puerto Rico.

Grant Opportunity for Undergraduate Students
Funds have been allocated by Provost Sandra Flake for the fall 2009 Undergraduate Awards for Research & Creativity. These awards were created to support undergraduate students working closely with individual faculty members on student-designed projects and to assist the faculty in providing students with special innovative learning opportunities.
• Fall awards of up to $500 each will be made available to undergraduates (including graduating seniors).
• A cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above is required.
• A spring award cycle will be announced in January.
Interested qualified undergraduate students are encouraged to go to the Web site for more information. Deadline: 10/1/2009.
These awards are an exceptional and unique opportunity for students to create their own research or creative projects under the guidance of a faculty mentor.

Cash for a Cancer Cure
The Chico State Relay For Life team is collecting donations for the American Cancer Society. Cash for a Cure canisters are in various offices around campus and any amount, large or small, is welcome. One hundred percent of funds raised will go the Cancer Society to help with research, services, education, and advocacy. Donations can also be sent to Peggy Armocido at zip 502.
If you would like to participate in this fund raiser by displaying a donation canister in your office, please contact Peggy at X5751 or e-mail.
Thank you for supporting the Chico State Relay For Life Team in the fight against cancer. The Relay team is made up of staff members and is in its eighth year of participation. They will host numerous fundraisers throughout the year prior to the April Relay.

Free Office Supplies in BMU 301
Do budget cuts have your office in a pinch? AS Recycling can help. The AS Recycling office in BMU 301 is stocked with reusable office supplies: hanging folders, file folders, clipboards, binders, notebooks, one-sided printer paper, in/out boxes, envelopes, notepads, dishes, and much more. Have something specific in mind? Give us a call and we will let you know if we have it. Reuse materials are found in campus recycling bins and are donated by the public.
The AS Recycling Office is located in BMU 301, it is open Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm, they can be contacted at 898-5033 or asrecycleoffice@csuchico.edu.
For donations, our warehouse is open to the public Saturdays 10am - 2:30pm, it is located on the corner of 4th and Cherry Streets. Please see our Web site for more information.

Play in the Hiestand Memorial Band Concert
It is that time of year again for the annual Hiestand Memorial Scholarship Concert, Alums Forever. The free concert will take place in the Harlan Adams Theater on Sat., Oct. 3 at 7:30pm. Rehearsals will be on Friday, Oct. 2 from 6pm to 10pm and Sat., Oct. 3 from 9am to noon.
Whether you were in one of Dan Hiestand’s bands, a friend, the student of one of his student’s, or an avid band fan, join us for some hard work and lots of fun. Do not let “I haven’t played for 20 years” be your excuse for not playing. Kindly email the CSU, Chico band staff at bemor23@hotmail.com with your name, instrument, the part you would like to play and contact information. Then dust off your instrument, or borrow one, and practice a scale or two. Renew old acquaintances and perform with us on Sat., Oct. 3. Continue the legacy - donations go to the Hiestand Memorial Scholarship and are awarded to outstanding music education students.

Alzheimer's Association's Memory Walk, Oct. 10

Today, over 5 million Americans have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, and according to newest research this number will grow to over 7 million by the year 2030.
The Memory Walk is the Alzheimer’s Association’s (AA) annual fundraiser designed to raise awareness and funds for the important work of the AA. Contributions to the event increase our ability to fund research, provide family services, and promote awareness of the disease. Last year, the Chico Memory Walk raised over $141,000
The AA is inviting all CSU, Chico students and Greek organizations, faculty, staff, and students to create teams of friends and family members to raise money and/or walk in the Memory Walk. Please register your team online at http://memorywalk.kintera.org/chico09.
CSU, Chico Team Week: Sept. 14-18. Teams that raise the most new members, send the most emails, and raise the most money will each receive prize packages worth $50 - $150 in gift certificates to downtown restaurants and stores.

AS Welcome Back BBQ, Sept. 23
The Associated Students annual Welcome Back BBQ will be Wed., Sept. 23 from 11am - 2pm. This is a free barbecue for students. The AS will be serving hot dogs, veggie dogs and drinks provided by Pepsi. During this event AS Programs and Special Election candidates will have tables set up to give students information about how to get involved and what they stand for. Live music will be provided by AS Presents during the barbecue.

International Forum, Sept. 22
Don Foster will be the speaker at the International Forum on Sept. 22, from 5pm - 6pm, in Tehama 108. The title of his talk will be “The Peace Corps as the Moral Equivalent of War” and will reflect his experience assisting John F. Kennedy’s brother-in-law, Sargent Shriver, in establishing the Peace Corps in the early 1960s. He will be assisted by the Peace Corps Regional Recruiter, Travis Axton. Foster has extensive international experience in many countries, beginning with his service in the US military during World War II.

Paul Eggers, Fiction
Paul Eggers teaches at CSU, Chico and is the author of three books of fiction: Saviors, How the Water Feels, and most recently, The Departure Lounge. His work has been a Barnes & Noble Discovery selection, and he is the recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, a Patterson Prize, a Lawrence Foundation award, and other honors. A former Peace Corps Volunteer and UN relief worker, he often writes about culture clash and the engagement between Americans and developing countries.

Zipcar Launch Event, Sept. 22

Come join Zipcar and The Institute for Sustainable Development for our Zipcar Launch Event in the Student Services Courtyard. We will have two vehicles on display and representatives from Zipcar and the Institute for Sustainable Development will be on hand to answer your questions and introduce you to the program.
Festivities start at noon with a concert by the band Brass Hysteria, brought to you by AS Presents.
At 1pm, Scott McNall, the executive director for the Institute for Sustainable Development, will MC special guests from the University and community to give comment on the importance of alternative transportation.
