Ethics Forum Will Address Academic Integrity

The Center for Applied and Professional Ethics (CAPE) in conjunction with the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning is presenting its first fall forum this Wednesday, Sept. 23, in PAC 134 at 7:30 p.m.

A panel of four speakers will address “How Honest are Chico Students?: Perspectives on Academic Integrity.”

Speakers will be asked these questions: What constitutes cheating? Do students and professors even agree on what constitutes cheating? Is there a culture of cheating among students here at CSU, Chico? Is it an epidemic as some claim?

Herbarium Workshops on Oak Ecology and Native Plants Offered this Fall

Friends of the Herbarium is offering several workshops this fall, and registration is open now.

Workshops currently open for registration are Oak Ecology and Management on Oct. 10 and Growing and Propagating Native Plants for the Garden on Nov. 14.

Applications Available for 2010 Summer O Staff

The Summer Orientation Program is currently recruiting students to serve as peer advisors/leaders for the 2010 Summer Orientation Program. If you know of a motivated, energetic student leader who would represent CSU, Chico well to new students and parents, please encourage them to apply. These paid positions help students build valuable leadership, public speaking and job skills. Applications and a job description can be picked up in SSC 110 or 120, or on-line. International Forum, Sept. 29

Pakistani students visiting the United States will be visiting the International Forum at CSU, Chico on Sept. 29, 2009, 5pm - 6pm. Their talk is in Tehama 108. The students are from the Northwest Frontier Province of Pakistan, and will describe life in that part of the world.

The International Forum is a weekly program of lectures sponsored by the School of International Studies. The public is welcome.

Debra Koppman has a master’s in studio art from UC Berkeley and a doctor of arts in aesthetics and art criticism from New York University. For years, she served as the previews editor for Artweek. “I have been inspired by the folk arts of many cultures of North and South America, Africa, and Asia … for several years I have been making things almost exclusively out of recycled materials,” writes Koppman.

Sue Richardson served as assistant curator for the Janet Turner Fine Art Print Gallery from 1987 until 2002. She has studied with James C. House and Richard Lieberman in Philadelphia; in Chico, with Patricia Babcock, Marion Epting, Paul Feldhaus, Chris Ficken, P.J. Garbutt-Murray, Grace Hertlein, Frank Turdici, and Janet Turner. This exhibition is a retrospective of Richardson’s printmaking—etchings and linocuts—from 1984 to 1991. It includes 22 “suites,” each a “short, modern fairy tale with pictures and text for all ages.”

Zipcar Launch Event, TODAY

Come join Zipcar and The Institute for Sustainable Development for our Zipcar Launch Event today, Sept. 22, in the Student Services Courtyard.

Starting at 10:00, we will have two vehicles on display and representatives from Zipcar and the Institute for Sustainable Development will be on hand to answer your questions and introduce you to the program.

Festivities start at noon with a concert by the band Brass Hysteria, brought to you by AS Presents.

At 1pm, Scott McNall, the executive director for the Institute for Sustainable Development, will MC special guests from the University and community to give comment on the importance of alternative transportation.

Wellness Center Tabling, Sept., 23

Please stop by the CSU, Chico Wellness Center’s Safety Table on Wed., Sept. 23 from 10am - 2pm. We will be located in the free speech area. There will be a raffle for free pepper spray and other great give-a-ways as well as tips on how to stay safe in Chico. This is a great opportunity to learn how you can safeguard yourself from becoming a victim.

Student Town Hall, Sept. 28

Associated Students President Joseph Igbineweka is holding a Student Town Hall Meeting on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009 at 5:30pm in Bell Memorial Union 210. Igbineweka has invited Sandra Flake, provost and vice president for academic affairs, Drew Calandrella, vice president for student affairs and Trustee Bob Linscheid to attend and hold an open discussion with students about decisions made by the Board of Trustees over the summer, the university budget and how these things will affect students this year and beyond.

Igbineweka said that he hopes this will give students the opportunity to learn more about the budget issues surrounding the university and gather information on what the university is doing to help the students continue to get a quality education.

Golf Tournament Features U.S. Open Tickets

VIP tickets to the final round of the 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach will be on the line for golfers who participate in The Gracie Classic, a fundraiser hosted by the Department of Journalism. The golf tournament, a scramble format, takes place at 9am, Saturday at the Tuscan Ridge Golf Club, with an entry fee of $100 per individual or $350 for a foursome. Proceeds will go to the journalism department and student scholarship program. The fee covers golf, cart and lunch. Sign up now. Contact Glen Bleske, department chair, X4770.

The event will include a raffle and silent auction: among the items in the raffle are four tickets to the 2010 U.S. Open; a one night stay at the Goodman House Bed and Breakfast; and a round of golf for four at Canyon Oaks Country Club. CSU, Chico Employees in Need of Donated Leave Credits

The following employees are in need of donated leave credits:

• CHANCE HALDERMAN (Staff, Facilities Management and Services) Employee is using Family Care catastrophic leave:only vacation credits may be donated.

Any CSU, Chico employee who accrues sick leave or vacation leave credits may donate leave credits to other eligible employees on the CSU, Chico campus, regardless of bargaining unit affiliation. Associated Student employees and CSU, Chico University Research Foundation employees are not eligible to donate leave credits to CSU, Chico employees.

If you wish to donate leave credits, you will need to sign the catastrophic leave donation list - which is maintained at the Payroll/Benefits Customer Service Counter (Kendall 222).

Because your signature is required, your donations cannot be accepted over the phone or via e-mail.

Per Catastrophic Leave Program guidelines, only the Disability Programs Office or a union representative may solicit for Catastrophic Leave donations; solicitation by any other party is prohibited.
