Salary Information in the ER

To: Faculty and Staff
From: Joe Wills, Director of Public Affairs and Publications

Recently, the Chico Enterprise Record made a Public Records Act request for CSU, Chico employee compensation. The newspaper has requested this information twice in the past, and made it available on a Web site along with other public employee salary information — http://www.chicoer.com/salaries. The new request covers compensation in fiscal year 2008-09.

As you may know, salary and classification data pertaining to state, county and municipal employees is public information, and so is subject to Public Records Act requests. It’s important to point out that compensation listed in the newspaper for an individual employee may not match his or her W-2. To comply with the ER request, annual salary information was drawn from the most recent data available; some salary adjustments may not be reflected in this data.

I appreciate how sensitive a subject compensation is, and thank you for your patience and understanding as we comply with this request for public information.
