Convicted MCI Manager Will Speak on White-Collar Crime
for College of Business Ethics Series

Walter Pavlo will present "Analysis of A White-Collar Crime: A Study in Personal and Corporate Failure" on Sept. 29, 5-7 PM, in Harlen Adams Theatre (PAC 144) at California State University, Chico. The College of Business Ethics Initiative is the sponsor of this "Evening with Walter Pavlo."

Pavlo, a former manager at MCI, was caught up in white-collar crime that led to significant losses for WorldCom when they acquired MCI. As a senior manager at MCI, Pavlo, along with one member of his staff and a business associate outside of MCI, began to perpetrate a fraud involving MCI customers. When the scheme was completed, seven customers of MCI had been defrauded, resulting in $6 million in payments to the Cayman Islands. In January 2001, in cooperation with the federal government, Pavlo pled guilty to wire fraud and money laundering and entered federal prison. His case appeared as a feature story in the June 10, 2002, issue of Forbes magazine.

Pavlo is currently founder and president of Etika, LLC, a Tampa, Florida-based organization that takes him to universities, professional organizations and law enforcement agencies to present a white-collar crime case study based on himself. The College of Business Ethics Initiative was established in 2005 to prepare students to be effective and ethical leaders in an increasingly complex business environment.
