School of Communication Event Features Successful Alumni Sharing Experiences with Students

An executive producer for an Emmy Award-winning creative studio, an editor/producer in motion picture advertising and a sports writer for the Sacramento Bee are among the alumni returning to California State University, Chico for the School of Communication's Connect 2007 event on April 4 and 5.

Eleven alumni and a guest filmmaker will meet with students in the journalism, design and related communication fields and share their professional experiences.

The second year of this event held by the School of Communication will include lunch with fellow speakers and Dean Phyllis Fernlund of the College of Communication and Education (CME), breakfast with CSU, Chico President Paul Zingg and meetings with CME students and faculty.

"The event is informative and inspiring for the students. It also allows our School of Communication alumni to reconnect with faculty and with CSU, Chico," said Fernlund.

A partial list of the alumni participating includes Brian Dowling ('93, speech), a senior sales executive at Ariba, Inc., in Sunnyvale, California; Scott Winter ('90, organizational communication and psychology), co-founder of LearningChange and business facilitator; Tino Sladavic ('98, media arts), executive producer with Emmy Award-winning Shilo Del Mar, a motion graphics and creative production company; Chet Simoni ('00, media arts), editor/producer for Fishbowl LLC, a creative audio-visual advertising company; Karen Marines ('99, media arts), manager of the communications department for Endeavor Agency; Christopher Hammond ('95, journalism), vice president of communications for Wells Fargo and Company; Jeff Burghardt, president of Anda-Burghardt Advertising in Monterey; Melody Gutierrez ('03, journalism) and Vince DiPersio, filmmaker, invited by alum Russ Woody, who is a writer and producer for TV and film.
