FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Concert to Benefit Guitar Music Camp Ethos Music Camp, California State University, Chico, will hold a benefit concert on Thursday, July 12, 7:30 p.m. at The Brickworks, 2nd and Wall in downtown Chico.Nifty Tom Fifty from Santa Cruz, and special guest Number One Gun, will provide the music. Advance tickets for $5 are available at Diamond W and Local Christian Bookstores. The tickets are $7 at the door. Ethos Music Camp is an annual camp for 12Ð21 year olds. The camp, in its second year, has drawn 52 participants from around the country. Over 90 percent of participants are from outside of California, from as far away as New York, Maryland and Alaska. The camp, geared toward guitar, bass and drums, introduces students to new types of music, allows them to compose music using special technology available through CSU, Chico's Department of Music, and provides ensemble experience. Students receive one-on-one instruction from top players and learn about producing and recording music. The ensembles practice during the weeklong camp, perform a concert for family and friends on Friday, and then travel to Grass Valley to the World Music Festival, where each of the ensembles performs onstage before a crowd of thousands. Zach Smith founded the camp last year when he was a senior majoring in music industry and guitar performance. Smith now has his own business in Web design and is the camp's director. Proceeds from the benefit concert will go toward scholarships for next year's camp and for guest musicians. Debbie Tyner, assistant director of the Guitar Music Camp, said, "The camp broadens young musicians' horizons. It introduces them to music and to composing and to opportunities in the music industry. It gives them an once-in-a-lifetime chance to play in front of a large audience. It is such a wonderful experienceÑa time for making memories and music and new possibilities."
