Alumni Businesses Meet New Students During Alumni Market Event

A new group of first-time students is beginning the fall 2001 semester at California State University, Chico on Monday, Aug. 27. Many of them will move in to residence halls this Thursday, Aug. 23.

Alumni and Parent Relations is sponsoring an Alumni Market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Move-In Day, to introduce them to organizations and businesses in Chico.

Businesses and organizations will set up tables on the lawn between Shasta and Lassen residence halls. All businesses and organizations that have participated in past year's move-in days, as well as those that are owned or operated by alumni, were invited to reserve a space.

Each business or organization will donate 25 prizes to entice students to participate. Students, who were told about the event in orientation materials, can visit the market, spin the wheel, and win a prize.

The event will provide an opportunity for businesses and organizations to come onto campus and begin developing a relationship with students. "It is the first step in the development of a new Alumni Association Business Membership," said Polly Crabtree, assistant director of Alumni and Parent Relations.

Among participants are the A.S. Bookstore, The Parent Education Network, Sierra Central Credit Union, Wells Fargo Bank, " Enterprise Record," Chico Creek Dance Center, Sunset Net, Pizza Guys, Basque Norte, Baskin-Robbins, and Jamba Juice. KHSL/KMXI/KPAY Radio will broadcast live from the location.

For more information about the event, contact Polly Crabtree, assistant director, Alumni and Parent Relations, at 530-898-6472.
