Beau Grosscup, Ph.D., is a specialist in international relations, government, and comparative politics, and author of The Newest Explosion of Terrorism, published by New Horizon Press. The title of his presentation is "Effective Counter-terrorism: Viewing the World as We View Ourselves." Haney Scott, Ph.D. is a professor in the business department at CSU, Chico. His expertise includes international business and finance. Scott will discuss the business-related effects of the terrorist attacks and the pending war and then address concerns about a possible depression, future unemployment, or other fiscal uneasiness. J. Brownson, Ph.D. specializes in central Asia and the Middle East. Brownson has taught international relations in Istanbul and traveled extensively throughout the Middle East. He will speak on some of the sources of this ongoing conflict, relating cultural factors with economic, and will illustrate theistic issues. He cites globalization as a causal factor of aggression toward the World Trade Center. Past attacks and riots among the young progressive and some anarchistic subcultures of America and the world, he argues, are indicators of a growing uneasiness toward the phenomenon of globalization. Jim Jacob, Ph.D., is a specialist in terrorism. He has been a consultant on terrorism for the United States Department of Defense for more than 20 years. Jacob teaches courses in terrorism and international relations at CSU, Chico. His other research interests include ethnic conflict and Basque nationalism. These four panel participants with a variety of disciplines and viewpoints will give the audience an idea of what may happen in the future as a result of the 9/11 attack. This forum is open to the public as well as students. Each guest speaker will make a 20-minute presentation. At the end of the forum, there will be 45-minute question-answer period.
