FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Award-winning Psychologist to Speak on Nature of Hate Crimes Los Angeles-based psychologist Edward Dunbar, a pioneer in the
assessment and prevention of hate crimes, will give a lecture at
California State University, Chico Thursday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. in
Ayres Hall room 120. Dunbar’s lecture is titled, "The Pathology of Hatred:
Psychological Characteristics of Hate Crime Perpetrators." It is free
and open to the public. Dunbar is a practicing psychologist and an associate clinical
professor in the Department of Psychology at UCLA. He consults with the
Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles Unified School District and
the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center in the areas of hate crime offender
evaluation and violence prevention in the schools. Dunbar has received the
American Psychological Association Distinguished Professional Contribution
to Public Service Award and the California State Psychological Association
Distinguished Humanitarian Contribution Award. Dunbar has developed and implemented a training program for school
mental health staff in the intervention with victims of bias crimes and
hate incidents. His clinical areas of expertise include treatment of
workplace harassment, crime victimization and violence risk assessment. Dunbar’s talk is supported by the Department of Psychology, College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, Building Bridges, Center for Applied Professional Ethics, Jewish Studies Program, Psychological Counseling, Associated Students, and Chico Area Interfaith Council. ###
