Humanities Center Gallery March Event
The Humanities Center Gallery is exhibiting ebaybies: Genuine & Lasting Friends, “intaglio prints of a conceptual nature” by art professor Nanette Wylde, and Small Colored Squares, digitally created images from Wylde’s students in the Electronic Arts Program, March 1-24 in Trinity Hall.
Wylde writes about her show:
“ebaybies are selected from abandoned, up-for-auction darlings. Their net value at any given moment is based not only on their physical condition and the near extinction of their type, but also on the current state of the market and the economic conditions of both the seller and potential buyers. ebaybies transcend the auction block and the price of their heads to levels of adoration only previously imagined. Contrary to Walter Benjamin’s theory of ‘loss of aura’ in the age of mechanical reproduction, ebaybies provide a genuine and lasting friendship.”
The Humanities Center Gallery is typically open M-F, 8-5. The student show will be exhibited in Trinity 100, the larger space, and Wylde’s show will be exhibited in the Trinity hallway adjacent to 100. A reception for both shows will be held in the galleries on Wednesday, March 2, 5-7pm. For information, call x4642.
