CSU, Chico Center for Entrepreneurship Competition

Chico State Center for Entrepreneurship invites all CSU,Chico students to participate in the 2nd Annual Student Business Plan Competition.

The Center for Entrepreneurship is sponsoring a student business plan competition. This event is open to all students of CSU, Chico.

The Center for Entrepreneurship began last year by sponsoring the 1st Annual Student Business Plan competition. Funding for four new businesses in the amount of $10,000 was awarded.

All entries must be submitted electronically by Nov. 15, 2005 at 5:00pm. The Center’s web site contains additional information concerning the competition; (judging criteria, guidelines, etc.) Visit the Web Site for more details or email cfe@csuchico.edu with any questions.

Research Competition, Feb. 23

The local Twentieth Annual Student Research Competition will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006.

This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your research, make professional contacts and add to your resume.

Undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled at CSU, Chico are welcome to apply as well as alumni/alumnae who received their degrees in spring, summer or fall of 2005. Students must be nominated by a faculty mentor.

Phoenix Club Meeting

The Phoenix Club meets every Friday at 11am – 2pm, Common Grounds (lower level of the BMU.

You’ve been immersed in a sea of younger faces. You know that there are some older students on campus, but how do you go about making contact? The answer is the Re-entry Student Association, Phoenix Club. Through weekly lunches and social activities, Phoenix Club affords you the opportunity to meet other students in situations similar to your own.

Access in Action Faire, Oct. 12

The Access in Action Faire is being held to celebrate October’s Disability Awareness Month. Adaptive sports equipment will be displayed along with informational booths staffed by Adventure Outings, Student Health Center, Passages, ARC, Department of Rehabilitation, and others.

Summer 2006 Student Positions

Want to travel the world while earning college and internship credit?

Camp Adventure is an on-campus student run organization which sends college students from across the United States to work with children around the world. Students primarily work as camp counselors or swim instructors on military bases, American Embassies and American Clubs.

Compensation in the form of a daily living stipend, housing and airfare is provided. Students also receive 12 units of college credit at a reduced cost. Students are responsible for 60 hours of training during the spring semester, which happens one evening a week.

This internship typically runs from the beginning of June to the end of August and is available to students from Chico and Butte College.

We will be holding informational meetings in Tehama Hall, Room 117:

October: 12 @ 7pm and 26 @ 7pm.
November: 2 @7pm, 8th @ 2pm, 17 @5pm or 21 @ 7pm

Student Computing will present these workshops next week:

The Excel II workshop will use and build on many of the skills students have learned in Excel I, such as, the worksheet, menus, keyboard, cells, formulas and functions. Students will plan, create, design and edit a chart using the Chart tool and Chart gallery. They will learn how to enhance a chart using titles, legends, annotations, arrows and WordArt. They will also learn how to save and print a chart.

TDP Meeting - TODAY

The first meeting for the Teacher Diversity Program (TDP) will be on Friday, Oct. 7 at 3:30pm in HOLT 111. This year our partner is the History/Social Science Project.

Our goal is to assist students in qualifying for entrance into professional preparation programs. Spanish Program Reception, Oct. 12

The Spanish Department would like to invite any students interested in studying Spanish to a reception on Wed., Oct. 12 from 5:00pm-7:00pm. Juniper Lake Backpack, Oct. 15-16

Juniper Lake is situated beautifully at the heart of Lassen National Forest. This pristine body of water is the largest of an entire family of gorgeous ‘swimming holes’. We will backpack around the lake’s outer edge while enjoying glimpses of dear and eagles. At night, we will laugh around the camp while roasting marshmallows and listening to the coyotes.

2nd Chance Contest: Deadline Oct. 21

Attention Student Organizations! It’s time to enter your group into the fourth annual 2nd Chance Week Contest!

Each group will collect and drop-off clothes, non-perishable foods, toys, cleaning supplies and other needed items to the AS Recycling office, BMU 005. Recycling interns will tally up your points and collected items will be donated to local charities. The group that donates the most valuable items of need will win the contest, a plaque, and a $100 donation to be given to a local charity chosen by the winning group. Items will be assigned a point value according to their level of need, details will be provided upon contest entry.

Entry Deadline: Fri., Oct. 21, 5 PM

Contest Length: Mon., Oct. 24 through Fri., Nov. 18, 2005

Pride/SafeZone Notice

National Coming Out Day is coming! On Mon., Oct. 10 and Tues., Oct. 11, National Coming Out Day, Chico Pride/SafeZone will be tabling in the Free Speech Area from 9am to 3pm. Presentations of LGBT history, information on LGBT figures such as Oscar Wilde and Matthew Shepard, student writing, and information on straight allies will be posted and information about Pride/SafeZone and coming out will be available.

This fun, interactive workshop session is designed to alleviate uncertainties about the disabled community. The session will dispel common myths and discuss their origins.
