Phoenix Club Meetings
The Phoenix Club meets every Friday from 11:00am – 2:00pm at Common Grounds (lower level of the BMU).
You’ve been immersed in a sea of younger faces. You know that there are some older students on campus, but how do you go about making contact? The answer is the Re-entry Student Association, Phoenix Club. Through weekly lunches and social activities, Phoenix Club affords you the opportunity to meet other students in situations similar to your own.

Juniper Lake Backpack, Oct. 15-16
Juniper Lake is situated beautifully at the heart of Lassen National Forest. This pristine body of water is the largest of an entire family of gorgeous ‘swimming holes’. We will backpack around the lake’s outer edge while enjoying glimpses of dear and eagles. At night, we will laugh around the camp while roasting marshmallows and listening to the coyotes.

Patrick's Point Camping, Oct. 21-23
Located 25 miles north of Eureka, CA, Patrick’s Point is a 640 acre park in the heart of California’s coast redwood country. The park’s dense forests of spruce, hemlock, pine, fir and red alder stretch over an ocean headland with lovely wildflower-festooned meadows. A dramatic shoreline ranging from broad sandy beaches to sheer cliffs that rise high above the Pacific Ocean offers great opportunities to explore tide pools, search for agates and driftwood, watch whales, sea lions and brilliant sunsets.

The Power Point workshop will teach students how to create a simple Power Point presentation from a template, by using AutoContent Wizard and by using existing slides. Students will learn to modify, format and customize their slides for presentations. They will also learn how to create hyperlinks and to format a PowerPoint presentation for the Web. They will learn printing techniques, how to deliver their presentation as well as how to manage their PowerPoint presentation files.

AIDS Quilt on display in BMU - Name readers needed
The AIDS Memorial Quilt is coming to the BMU Auditorium Wednesday and
Thursday, Oct. 18 and 19. The quilt, sponsored by Student Health
Services, will be on display from 9:00am to 7:00pm both days.
An opening ceremony for the event will take place at 10:30 on Wednesday in the BMU Auditorium lobby.
Throughout the two days, names of people who died due to AIDS will be read. If you are interested in signing up for a 10-minute slot to read names, please contact Student Health Services at x6070.
The reading of names will take place into a low volume microphone from a discreet corner of the auditorium. Readers will not be on stage or highlighted in any way. If a reader is unsure of a pronunciation, they can give it their best effort or skip over the name.

Up 'til Dawn Fund-raiser Event, Nov. 7
Wanna make a difference in the world and help save the lives of children everywhere?!
Up ‘til Dawn is a student-run organization dedicated to raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, located in Memphis, Tennessee. St. Jude is a world-renowned research and treatment facility for childhood cancers and other debilitating childhood diseases. The hospital’s daily operating costs are more than 1 million dollars and it survives solely on donations – this is where your part comes in!
On November 7 from 5pm to midnight in the BMU Auditorium, Up ‘til Dawn will host a letter-writing party in which participants come and address pre-written donation letters to family and friends with the hope of receiving financial support to keep St. Jude and its patients alive. The event will include tons of free food, great live music, over 200 raffle prizes (including free spring tuition!), and a lot of fun!
The children of St. Jude are sick with cancer and don’t have the luxury of time on their hands – they need yours!

Take the AS Bookstore's online survey and win an iPod Nano or cash
The Associated Students Bookstore is pleased to take part in a National Course Materials Survey being conducted by the National Association of College Stores1 campus market research department, StudentWatch. As part of the survey, you will be able to share your attitudes and buying habits relating to course materials, textbooks and the services we offer.
The AS Bookstore, as well as 16 other College Bookstores, are taking part in this survey. In mid-November StudentWatch will randomly select:
1. One $50 cash prize winner from each store
2. One $500 cash prize winner from all 16 campuses survey participants
3. Winners will be notified by the AS Bookstore
As an additional incentive for taking the survey, the AS Bookstore will select one name to win an iPod Nano which will be announced on Monday, Oct. 31.

Stop by and see the latest in adaptive equipment used by students with disabilities. Learn how text is scanned so that printed words are read electronically. See printed materials converted into Braille, and the easy to use voice activated computers. The ATC will showcase a variety of software and hardware technologies that enhance student independence, and promote equal access to academic programs.
