Humanities Center Gallery: Steve Miranda Byer in January and February

The Humanities Center Gallery is exhibiting its third show by Steve Miranda Byer — Cross My Heart and Hope to Fly —in mixed media Jan. 5 through Feb. 23 in Trinity 100 and the hallway.

Miranda Byer, an artist of assemblage who has been an inspiration for the Chico art scene with his sculptures over the past twenty-five years, has been organizing, sorting, and transporting the contents of his Chico studio to his new abode in San Francisco. He offered the 1078 Gallery — where he had his first exhibit in 1980 — the opportunity for artists to come together for a “Creative Salon” at his studio on 9th and Main in late November. The artists were unleashed on the materials Miranda Byer has been collecting for decades and created over 100 objets d’art for the gallery’s holiday fundraiser.

Miranda Byer has shown in over a dozen venues in Chico and the Bay Area. He works in various media, including sculptural and flat collage, printmaking, and shadow boxes. He studied drawing and printmaking at CSU, Chico from 1975 to 1980.

A reception will be held Jan. 26, 5-7:00pm, with an artist’s talk preceding at 4:00pm in Trinity 100. Exhibition hours are M-F, 8-5. For information, call x4642.
