Humanities Center Gallery: Ceramic sculpture by Trevor Koch in March and April

The Humanities Center Gallery is exhibiting a culminating exhibition for the bachelor of fine arts degree in ceramics by Trevor Koch in the show Points of Contention now through April 21 in the Trinity hallway.

Born in Modesto, Koch was raised in the Central Valley. He is married to Kate Mullins, who works in accounting for Sierra Nevada Brewery, and together the couple has three cats. Koch has been the gallery assistant at the Humanities Center Gallery for the past two years.

For his BFA show, Koch writes, “Cycles of growth and decay are of particular interest to me … from the fleshy, tender surfaces of things recently brought into being to the dry, cracked, and decomposing nature of things in decline. And yet I cannot deny my attraction to the manufactured and the mass-produced, to the technological mastery of the world and its promise of order and security. My recent work has been an attempt…to harmonize my appreciation of industry’s formal geometry with my love of organic growth and inevitable decay, to which even technology must surrender.”

A closing night reception will be held April 21, 6-8pm. Exhibition hours are Monday through Friday, 8-5. For information, call 898-4642.

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Call for Nominations - Chris Hilbert Outstanding Chico State Friend Award

Nominations are due March 30, 2006 to: CC Carter, Student Activities, Zip 755.
Award: $3,500 and a commemorative plaque

Christopher Edward Hilbert was a well-loved, down-to-earth, young man who lived a very full nineteen years. The last few months before he died in 1994 were strongly associated with CSU, Chico. His time here was short, but he quickly appreciated and personified the best aspects of the Chico experience. He did this through a genuine love for the many new friends he made, the faculty who taught him and aided his learning, and the total experience of the University and the community. He expressed this joy to his family by saying, “I’m so happy here that I just smile all the time.” His family generously intends for Chris to “live on” by endowing an award of $3,500 annually to be given to a student who exemplifies those qualities which make for a true friend to fellow students and the entire University.

Nomination Guidelines and the application can be found at the Web Site and at the Student Activities office, BMU 213. Please direct questions to CC Carter at cecarter@csuchico.edu or by phone at x5396.
