"Drop & Dash", May 23 and May 30

MOVING OUT? HAVE TRASH THAT NEEDS TO BE DISPOSED OF?
The City of Chico and AS Recycle present “DROP & DASH.” Drop off dates are Tuesday May 23 and Tuesday May 30 from 11:00am - 6:00pm. Locations for the event include: 2nd & Cedar and West Sacramento & North Cedar. Trash, reusable, and recycled items will all be accepted. Just a few of the items include: blankets, couches, and mattresses. If you have questions, please contact AS Recycle at (530)898-5033.

SIFE Wins "Best of Fair" at Fun Without Alcohol Fair

The Campus Alcohol and Drug Education Center (CADEC) announced the booth winners of its 17th Annual Fun Without Alcohol Fair, held Thursday, April 27 in the Free Speech Area.

The fair features campus and community organizations hosting interactive booths, games and activities focused on a healthy lifestyle theme. This year, 64 campus and community groups competed to earn prizes for the most creative, interactive and educational booths, as well as for a “best in show” award. Following are the winning booth entries:

Most Interactive Booth: American Marketing Association
Most Educational Booth: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education)
Most Creative Booth: Green Campus
Best of Fair: SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise)

Campus Connected Farmers Market & Health Forum

Campus Connected Farmers Market & Health Forum on campus every Tuesday from 11:45am until 3:30pm. You will find us next to the campus library building.

We are local, county certified farmers - selling whole fresh in season produce.

Last week we had fresh strawberries, cut flowers, organic oranges, and avacados. We also had massages by the minute. Expect much more produce variety and more vendors as the new season gets underway.

Free stall space to student and community organizations doing education and outreach, with special emphasis on health, nutrition, and exercise.

Sponsored by the Associated Students Environmental Affairs Council.

Faces of Judaism Exhibition, May 14

Foods, speakers, art, music, and artifacts tell the story of Judaism around the world. Drop in after your Mother’s Day outings for crafts, food tasting, and educational experiences. Instructional Aides Needed This Summer

Summer Connection Program is a collaboration between the CSU, Chico Educational Talent Search Program, Migrant Education, California Student Opportunity and Access Program and Butte College, held on the Butte College campus from July 10 through August 3, 2006. 150 6th-8th graders from Butte and Glenn Counties are selected to participate each year.

The instructional aide’s (IA) duties include assisting program participants in grades 6-8 begin to develop the skills and motivation necessary for success in postsecondary education and assisting instructors and program staff in all areas of program delivery including but not limited to: tutoring; grading; lesson preparation and delivery; and supervision of students during co-curricular and meal periods.

Work days/times are Monday through Thursdays 7:45am -2:45pm.Pay is $8.00 per hour. Applicants must be currently enrolled at CSU, Chico & be able to pass Dept. of Justice fingerprinting.

Applications can be obtained and returned in the Office of Admissions, Colusa Hall, CSU, Chico. Unofficial transcripts are required with all applications.

Deadline: Completed applications and transcripts must be received by Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at 5:00pm.

Year-End BBQ for Wildcat Athletes

CSU, Chico NCAA, Club Sport Athletes and fellow sport lovers are invited to come join us for good food, good people and good times. We want to celebrate your seasons, help build relationships between teams, & talk about ways we can encourage you spiritually next year.

Books for Africa Book Drive May 8-May 19

Donate your used textbooks. Golden Key International Honour Society is sponsoring a book drive in conjunction with Better World Books and Books For Africa, to combat illiteracy in Africa. There will be bins around campus for you to donate your used textbooks (even novels used in English classes), books will be boxed and shipped to Books For Africa and then sent on to Africa in order to build libraries. Textbooks such as US history books or books pushing other religions will not be sent, but can be sold to raise funds for the shipping of the books. So donate whatever you can to this great cause.

CSU, Chico Birding Club Meeting May 8

The CSU, Chico Birding Club will have its final meeting of the semester on Monday May 8 at 5:15pm in Holt 268. We will watch a presentation on the recently rediscovered and thought to be extinct Ivory-billed Woodpecker. We will also discuss our plans for our “end of semester BBQ”, the summer and next semester. The CSBC is open to anyone with an interest in avian natural history and/or birdwatching no matter what your knowledge/skill level. Refreshments will be served. Come check us out. Paths to a Clearing: Primate and Human Destinies in Equatorial Africa

Humanity’s closest kin, the African great apes, face unprecedented threats to their very existence. Indeed, in the next few decades, we risk witnessing an ‘extinction spasm’ among African primates and large mammals more generally, as part of an intensifying crisis of biodiversity worldwide.

Anthropologist David Eaton will explore the cultural, political, and economic contexts of non-human primate survival.

Legion Avenue Closure Notice

To alleviate traffic congestion and parking difficulties during spring semester residence hall closing, Legion Avenue will be closed between Citrus Avenue and Warner Street on Thursday, May 18, and Friday, May 19, from 7:00am to 6:00pm. University Housing and Food Service and the University Police Department ask that you use an alternate route during this time. Thank you for your cooperation; it is greatly appreciated.

Computer Animation Lecture Series Featuring Pixar's Andrew Gordon, May 8

Pixar Animator Andrew Gordon is coming to CSU, Chico State.
Andrew’s Lecture will highlight aspects of creating the “The Incredibles.” He will discuss story and character development related to the making of this film.

Student Loan Exit Requirements for Departing Loan Recipients

Notice to Students Not Returning to CSU, Chico for Fall 2006.

If you received Direct and/or Perkins Student Loans while attending CSU, Chico, you need to complete an “Exit Interview” no later than June 20, 2006. This is a federal regulatory requirement. The Exit Interview provides information about your rights and responsibilities, provides payment options and offers information about loan consolidation.

Direct Stafford Loan Borrowers are urged to do their exit interview on-line at the Web Site You will need to have your US Department of Education PIN to view your loans and to complete your exit interview. You may request your PIN at at the Web Site Direct Loan borrowers will also need this PIN to take advantage of many on-line payment and account oversight options over the term of their loans.

Students who received Perkins Student Loans should contact Collections in the Student Financial Services office @ 530-898-5936 to arrange for an on-line or in-person Exit Interview.

Both Direct and Perkins Loan borrowers may also come by Kendall Hall Room 213 to complete their Exit Interview requirement.

You do not need to do an exit interview if you are enrolling at Chico for Fall 2006 as at least a half-time student (6 undergrad or 4 grad units).

Campus Blood Drive Wednesday, May 10

The next campus Blood Drive will be held on Wednesday, May 10 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. in BMU 210. All participants will receive a free t-shirt. In order to donate, please bring a photo ID or donor card, and remember to eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating. Participants must weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be generally healthy. Please allow one hour for the donation process. Appointments can be made by calling the Staff Council office, 898-6156. Questions should be directed to the Staff Council office.
