Congratulations CSU, Chico Model United Nations Team
The exceptional students of the CSU, Chico Model United Nations team have continued the tradition of excellence and accomplishment by earning top awards at this year’s National Model United Nations competition. Only about 10% of all schools that compete receive awards, and Chico brought home two, putting them in the top 5%!
For their hard work and preparation prior to the conference, the Chico team earned the “Outstanding Position Paper” award, and for their diligent and diplomatic performance at the competition, received an “Honorable Mention.” The CSU, Chico team represented the country of Australia at the National Model United Nations conference (NMUN) held April 11-15, 2006 in New York City. The 21 outstanding CSU, Chico students joined over 3,500 distinguished student delegates from 300 schools and six continents. The diligent preparation required to perform at such an advanced level occurs in Political Science courses offered by Professor Rick Ostrom.
Students interested in international relations and/or the International Relations Major are encouraged to explore the MUN program at CSU, Chico. Sign up for POLS 442, “International Organizations” taught by Professor Ostrom in the fall to participate. Please contact the Department of Political Science in Butte 741 or at 898-5301 for more information.

January 2007 Intersession in Costa Rica
Experience the Central American tropics and get 3 units of credit.
Environmental Literacy (ENVL 105-99), January Intersession, 2006
GE Credit (Area E)—3 units—No prerequisites—Open to all majors
Costa Rica, in southern Central America, is a small peaceful country with an impressive amount of its wild land protected in parks and reserves. Because of its tropical location, its diverse topography, and its position on the land bridge between North and South America, it is one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. In a day’s travel you can go from coastal beach and mangroves to seasonally dry forest to cloud forest to lowland rainforest, and in each of these it usually is easy to see some of the characteristic wildlife.
Traveling to several sites in Costa Rica, this course will look at the dynamics of Neotropical ecosystems, the environmental effects of their alteration, and the social and economic problems involved.
Expected cost is $2300 including airfare, meals, lodging, and in-country transportation. A deposit of $200 is required by September 30, 2005.
