Part-Time Teaching Associate in Spanish
Description: The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at CSU, Chico is seeking applications from graduate students in the M.A. program in Teaching International Languages who are interested in teaching basic Spanish courses for the 2006-2007 academic year. Qualified applicants, who are selected, will be invited to interview with the Department Chair and/or Spanish faculty and may later be asked to serve as a Teaching Associate for introductory level Spanish courses. Selected candidates may be contracted to teach a course on an as-needed basis.Â

Graduate Assistant in Japanese (GA)
Description: A Graduate Assistant is sought for Fall ‘06 semester to assist faculty member with various professional and technical duties associated with the Japanese program. Duties may include supervising students in a classroom, workshop, or laboratory (where final responsibility for the class and it’s entire instruction, including the performance of the Graduate Assistant, is vested in a member of the faculty); training students in the use of equipment or other resources; assisting faculty with research and preparation of course materials; participating in the evaluation of students’ work; tutoring students; and other related work.

Part-Time Teaching Associate in Japanese
The Minor in Japanese Language and Culture at CSU, Chico seeks applicants for possible position to teach one or more courses in the Japanese Language and Culture Program starting Fall Semester, 2006.
Minimum Qualifications:
Teaching Associates must be concurrently enrolled at CSU, Chico in a master’s degree program
Native or near-native fluency in Japanese
Must understand the gap between syntax and semantics
Possess the ability to learn and perform assigned work; work cooperatively with faculty, staff and other students; and accept responsibility
Possess strong writing and comprehension skills
Be able to accurately evaluate and return assignments in a timely manner
Field specialization will determine specific assignments
(NOTE: Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University).

Job Announcement
Title: General Office Help/Work Study-Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures
Job Description: Work study student sought for Fall 06 semester to serve as office receptionist, answer phone, take messages, schedule appointments; assist students, faculty and staff at the reception desk; run errands, open and process mail, shredding; assist with large bulk mailings, and other special projects as required. Proofreading and computer skills are required. Familiarity with the following preferable: Outlook, Excel, Word, and mail merging experience.
Hours: 4 hours per day/five days per week.
Qualifications: Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
(NOTE: Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University).

Legion Avenue Closure - Thursday, May 18 and Friday, May 19
To alleviate traffic congestion and parking difficulties during spring semester residence hall closing, Legion Avenue will be closed between Citrus Avenue and Warner Street on Thursday, May 18, and Friday, May 19, from 7:00am to 6:00pm. Music Man Jr. in Laxson Auditorium - Tickets Available
Chico Performances and Blue Room Young Company presents Music Man Jr. May 24, 2006 at 7:30pm in Laxson Auditorium at California State University, Chico.
