Littered Landscape Photography Contest Accepting Entries
The Associated Students Recycling Program, Nor-Cal Waste Systems, Inc. and the Chico Enterprise-Record invite students of all skill levels to submit photographs for the Fourth Annual Littered Landscape Photography Contest.
The Littered Landscape Photography Contest is a free contest open to both professional and amateur photographers. Contestants may submit no more than three unique photographs. Cash Prizes will be awarded based on composition, creativity and uniqueness.
All submissions will be displayed for public viewing both on the CSU, Chico Campus as well as off-campus at Moxie’s CafĂ© and the County Center in Oroville.
Every day we find litter that has been illegally dumped on the sides of roads, rivers and creeks. Items such as rubber boot soles take 50 to 80 years to decompose and aluminum cans take up to 500 years to decompose. Illegal dumping is unattractive, unhealthy for native plants and animals, and pollutes the beauty of Butte County’s natural landscape for decades. The Littered Landscape Photography Contest brings awareness to this unsightly problem.
Entry forms are available at the AS Recycling Office located in Room 005 of the Bell Memorial Union. Applications and photography are due by October 31, 2006. For more information, stop by the AS Recycling Office, call 898-5033 or e-mail asrecycle@csuchico.edu.

Up 'til Dawn at CSU, Chico
UP ‘TIL DAWN at CSU, Chico is an event that raises money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, located in Memphis Tennessee. St. Jude is the largest childhood cancer research center in the world, and ground-breaking research findings at St. Jude are shared with doctors and scientists all over the world. The hospital’s daily operating costs are approximately $1,027,832, which are primarily covered by public contributions (from programs such as Up ‘til Dawn). St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay.
Last year (2005/2006), in a record-breaking year for CSU, Chico, more than 850 students raised over $103,000 for the hospital, and this year we plan on raising even more!
Funds are raised by way of a letter-writing party, which will take place on Nov. 13, 2006 in the BMU auditorium. Participants are asked to attend the event with a list of addresses of family and friends. Once there, pre-written donation letters will be addressed and mailed out with the hope of receiving financial help for the children of St. Jude Hospital. The letter-writing party will include TONS of free food, good music, TONS of raffle prizes, and a whole lot of FUN.
Please visit the Web Site to register your team for the event (or for more information) or contact Up ‘Til Dawn at: uptildawn_csuc@yahoo.com

Exciting & Beautiful Dance comes to Laxson - Tango Fire, Oct. 3
Chico Performances is proud to present Tango Fire, performing the history of the tango, on October 3 at 7:30pm in beautifully refurbished Laxson Auditorium.
The tango may be the world’s most alluring and exciting dance. It evokes sensuality and intrigue, lust and provocation, raw energy and knife-edged precision. Mikhail Baryshnikov describes the tango as … “A dance of almost indescribable beauty, the grace of ballet and the fire of flamenco.”

Do you know someone who has been doing an outstanding job in the classroom, with “professional growth and achievement” activities, providing university service, or advising students? If so, please consider nominating him/her for one of the “Outstanding” awards given annually by FRAS (the Faculty Recognition And Support committee). In case you missed it, the call for nominations came out a little while ago. The nomination process is fairly easy, and it’s a campus-wide honor to be selected. You can learn more about FRAS and the nomination process at the Web Site Help the university recognize the achievements of your friend and colleague, or even have someone nominate you. If you have any questions, please contact Steve Lewis, Chair of the FRAS Committee @ x6244 or Gayle Hutchinson, Chair of the Academic Senate @ x6201.
