America Recycles Day, Nov. 15

America Recycles Day

America Recycles Day is Nov. 15. The event, started in 1997, encourages Americans to recycle and purchase recycled content products. This year a free trip to Alaska is being given away. Visit the Web Site or visit the BMU from 10am -2pm for more information. To learn more about recycling, stop by the Associated Students Recycling office in BMU, Room 005 or visit the Web Site

AS Recycling Open House

Come enjoy free food while learning about recycling. The AS Recycling Program will be hosting an all-day open house on Wed., Nov. 15. The event will be in the Bell Memorial Union in Room 005 (the basement). Movies and books on environmental issues and recycling are available for free rental. There will also be a variety of free items available such as school and office supplies. Information on internships for next semester will also be available. For more information, visit the recycling office or call 898-5033.

Anthropology Forum: Montse Armengou, Famed Spanish Journalist, Nov. 16

Montse Armengou, a famed Spanish journalist, will be speaking at the Anthropology forum (Ayers 120) on Thurs., Nov. 16, 2006. The topic will be centered on a mass cover-up during the Francisco Franco’s dictatorship and the actual exhumation of mass graves in the effort to recover historical memory.

Kindergarten Faire, Nov. 28

The Associated Students Children’s Center Child Development Laboratory, at CSU, Chico are sponsoring a free Kindergarten faire, open to the public.

Representatives from area kindergartens, including alternative, traditional, and private programs, will be present to offer information and answer questions about their educational programs.

Upward Bound Summer 2007 Task Team Supervisor Positions Available

Task Team Supervisor Job Opportunities Available with Upward Bound Projects for the 2007 Summer.

The Upward Bound Projects, a Federally Funded TRiO Program, is a year round program for motivated students with academic potential who want to continue their education after high school.

Duties include the following:
• Knowledge of and ability to direct and motivate non-traditional high school students.
• Demonstration of organization and mentoring skills.
• Ability to supervise adolescents and to assure their safety and well-being.
• Ability to implement the specific goals of the project as assigned.
• Participant instruction and monitoring.
• Compliance with the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and other applicable regulations particularly in the area of safe work practices.
• Student advisement; requisite paperwork and final report.
• Hours are 12:30pm to 4pm, Monday thru Thursday.

WAGES: $715 Stipend and internship units.

10-15 hours per week, flexible
Starting pay $7.50/hour

The duties of the clerical assistant include, but are not limited to the following:

Front Counter Reception:
Greet and assist walk-in traffic.
Explain complex university policies and procedures to students, faculty and staff. Research policies from University Catalog.
Answer telephones. Screen calls and take messages. Answer questions and redirect/transfer calls to appropriate campus offices.

Clerical Duties:
Must have knowledge of Microsoft Excel & Word on a PC platform.
Must have general office experience (i.e. filing, answering phones, mail distribution).
Distribute mail to faculty mailboxes.
Complete forms for Printing and Quick Copy requests.
Process and file documents.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Run errands across campus.
Use copier, computer, calculator and fax machines.
Contact various campus offices to gather or relay information.
Assist office staff and Department Chair with a variety of clerical projects.
