Writer's Voice at the Humanities Center: Troy Jollimore's poetry, Feb. 22

Troy Jollimore, Department of Philosophy and Humanities Center Board, poetry reading, Writer’s Voice at the Humanities Center, Feb. 22, 7:30pm, Trinity 100, reception to follow, 898-6457.

Troy Jollimore is a poet, philosopher, and professor. He is currently an External Fellow at the Stanford Humanities Center. He has published poetry in journals including The Malahat Review, PRISM International, MARGIE, and Ploughshares. His first book of poetry, Thom Thomson in Purgatory, was selected by former US Poet Laureate Billy Collins for the 2005 Robert E. Lee & Ruth I. Wilson Poetry Book Award and was published last fall by Margie/IntuitHouse (cover illustration: James Kuiper, Department of Art and Art History and Humanities Center Board). Tom Thomson has just been nominated for the highly prestigious 2007 National Book Critics Circle award in poetry.

“Troy Jollimore is an employed philosopher, a formalist adept, a co-conspirator of John Berryman and a lot of other things you’ll probably forget in the speculative reach and sheer pleasure of his work. The Tom Thomson sonnets, in particular, are sad and wise and explosively funny in all possible combinations.—James Richardson, author of Interglacial: New and Selected Poems & Aphorisms.
