Join the Environmental Affairs Council
Join the defining social movement of our generation to make the memories of a lifetime.
Volunteer with the Environmental Affairs Council for a semester full of victories in Sustainability, the defining social movement of our generation. We are forging a prosperous and sustainable future and it is historic and heroic. All majors and levels of knowledge are welcome.
Participation in EAC is a great resume builder, and you can host bands, speakers, get more solar panels on campus, organize events, reform the business practices of a major corporation, work on organic gardens, and anything else you can think of. The University President signed on to an agreement to eliminate the university’s climate impact and the most innovative solutions will come from students. Together, we will dramatically change the course of this university and our world in a brave new direction. The time is now and EAC is the group. Meetings are every Tuesday at 5pm in BMU 205. On The Creek Lecture Series Brings Denise Low-Weso, Feb. 21
Chico Performances and the Office of the Provost present Denise Low-Weso, 2007-2009 Kansas Poet Laureate, as part of the On The Creek Lecture Series on Wed., Feb. 21, 2007 at 7:30pm in Ruth Rowland - Taylor Recital Hall at California State University, Chico.
This free lecture is entitled: “From Physics to Poetry: A Language of Sustainability for the 22nd Century.”
Low-Weso’s talk will encompass models of global warming and how its implications indicate the next century will be one of massive change for Earth. Remote sensing equipment affords intimate measurements of geological and other processes, and the subsequent deep mapping creates a new vocabulary of observation. With the realization that living space, water, agricultural land, and energy sources are finite, it is time to embrace long-term sustainability envisionings of the Cheyenne and Indigenous American paradigms and call back the poet into Plato’s Republic, allowing language to become a vehicle of sustainability.
COST/TICKETS: This lecture is free and open to the public.

Paths Of Glory (USA, 1957) 87 min. Black and white. Directed by Stanley Kubrick. Hosted by Jason Tannen, Department of Art and Art History and University Art Gallery Director
Paths Of Glory is a great World War I film by Stanley Kubrick (2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY [1968]), who co-wrote it with Calder Willingham (THE GRADUATE [1967]) and Jim Thompson. Three-time Oscar-nominated-for-Best-Actor Kirk Douglas gives his usual gripping, gritty performance as a field leader caught between his men and inexplicable orders from above. It features striking performances by a superb roster of character actors such as Ralph Meeker, Adolphe Menjou, and George Macready. This film was added to the National Film Registry in 1992.
