Be inspired by the unique sounds of the Tibetan culture on Sat., March 3, 2007 at 7:30pm when the Gyuto Monks, a Tibetan Tantric Choir, perform live in Laxson Auditorium at California State University, Chico, courtesy of Chico Performances.

“The Gyuto Monks represent the spirit and culture of Tibet at its highest level.” -Philip Glass

Tibet’s music and art were inspired by meditation and designed to aid it. In a tribute to the Dalai Lama, the monks of Gyuto have perfected a special chant in which each monk sings not a single note, but an entire chord. This remarkable, transcendentally beautiful sound is thought to arise only from the throat of a person who has realized selfless wisdom. Their vocalizing is accented by cymbals, horns, and bells. Experiencing the Gyuto Monks will leave you feeling exhilarated to share one of their sacred prayer ceremonies.
